Thiess, the mining division of Cimic Group, has successfully secured a substantial nickel mining contract valued at A$240 million, equivalent to $155.49 million, from PT Halmahera Sukses Mineral, a mining company located in Central Halmahera, Indonesia. This contract, with a duration of 3.5 years, marks Thiess's second foray into the Indonesian nickel market this year, affirming its continued expansion efforts in the region.

Under the terms of this latest contract, Thiess will assume responsibility for the complete spectrum of mining operations, encompassing mine development, the construction of haul roads, ore loading, and hauling. Michael Wright, the Executive Chair and CEO of Thiess, conveyed his excitement about this milestone, emphasizing, "We are thrilled by this recent contract acquisition, which serves as a testament to Thiess's exceptional expertise and proven track record in the Indonesian mining sector."

The nickel mine, the focal point of this contract, is strategically located in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, and notably, it is positioned just 6 kilometers away from another mining project currently operated by Thiess.

Cluny Randell, Thiess Asia's Group Executive, highlighted the strategic importance of this contract by remarking, "Securing this contract aligns perfectly with Thiess's strategy to broaden our range of commodities. Our unwavering commitment to safety, technological innovation, and inclusivity distinguishes us. We eagerly anticipate further strengthening our partnerships within the Indonesian nickel industry."

This achievement underscores Thiess's commitment to diversifying its commodities portfolio and expanding its presence in key markets. The company's strong focus on safety, innovation in technology, and inclusive practices has consistently set it apart in the mining industry.

Earlier this year, Thiess received another significant mining expansion contract from PT Harum Energy, a mining company operating in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. This contract expansion encompassed a range of mining operations, including load and haul, drill and blast activities, haul road maintenance, and rehabilitation.

Of notable interest, Thiess announced plans to introduce its inaugural autonomy program at the Mahakam Sumber Jaya (MSJ) mine, part of its sustainable mining practices aimed at enhancing safety and improving production efficiency. This initiative represents a significant step toward embracing innovative technologies in the mining sector.

In conclusion, Thiess's latest achievement in securing a substantial nickel mining contract from PT Halmahera Sukses Mineral reaffirms its strong position and expertise in the Indonesian mining industry. The company's dedication to diversification, safety, technological advancement, and inclusivity continues to drive its success, solidifying its position as a key player in the Indonesian nickel market and beyond.
