Syensqo, a global leader in advanced materials, has announced a strategic partnership with Vartega, a pioneer in carbon fiber recycling technologies, to drive sustainability in the composites industry. The collaboration aims to create a closed-loop ecosystem that enables the reuse of post-industrial recycled carbon fiber in high-performance applications, particularly in the automotive sector. By integrating Vartega’s innovative recycling process with Syensqo’s production framework, this partnership will help minimize waste and promote circularity in carbon fiber usage.
As part of this initiative, Vartega will process dry carbon fiber and prepreg waste from Syensqo’s North American manufacturing sites and transform it into its high-quality EasyFeed Bundles™. This recycled carbon fiber will then be reintegrated into Syensqo’s ECHO portfolio—its specialized line of carbon fiber-reinforced polymers. Known for their strength, durability, and lightweight properties, these specialty polymers are widely used in structural automotive components, dampening rings, and transmission-related applications.
The partnership underscores the potential of combining sustainability with exceptional material performance. By ensuring that production waste is repurposed into high-value applications, Syensqo and Vartega are demonstrating how recycling can be seamlessly integrated into the supply chain without compromising quality or efficiency. This initiative aligns with Syensqo’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation, reinforcing the company’s "One Planet" strategy to transition toward a circular economy.
“We are thrilled to partner with Vartega to ensure that our carbon fiber waste finds a new life within our own portfolio of products,” said Gabriel Molina, Composite Materials Sustainable Development Director at Syensqo. “This collaboration not only enhances our product offerings but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability. By incorporating recycled carbon fiber into our specialty polymers, we are taking a significant step toward reducing environmental impact while maintaining the high-performance standards our customers expect.”
Vartega’s CEO, Andrew Maxey, emphasized the significance of this partnership in addressing critical challenges in composite material recycling. “Vartega exists to help our customers solve the world’s toughest advanced materials recycling challenges. Syensqo’s leadership in sustainable composites is demonstrated through their efforts to incorporate renewable feedstocks and reduce composite waste. Our collaboration ensures that composites waste gets a second life while significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the final product. We are excited to work with Syensqo in advancing this closed-loop recycling model,” he said.
By leveraging cutting-edge recycling technologies and fostering industry collaboration, Syensqo and Vartega are setting a new benchmark for sustainability in advanced materials. This partnership highlights how innovative solutions can drive circularity in the carbon fiber industry, proving that high-performance materials can also contribute to a more sustainable future. Through their combined expertise, both companies are taking meaningful steps to reshape the composites industry, promoting environmental responsibility while maintaining the technical excellence required for demanding applications.
