VoltH2, a European frontrunner in green hydrogen solutions, has chosen Sweco, a reputable engineering and architecture consultancy, as its partner for a brand-new hydrogen production plant in Delfzijl, Netherlands. This strategic collaboration will see Sweco take the lead in designing and developing the facility. The good news is that all necessary permits are already in place, allowing the project to move swiftly through the design phase. With an anticipated launch date in the latter half of 2027, the plant is poised to become a significant contributor to the region's clean energy landscape.  This facility is designed to produce a substantial 5,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, specifically targeting local industries with a reliable and sustainable source of clean fuel.

Sweco brings a wealth of expertise to the hydrogen sector, covering the entire value chain. This includes integrating electrolysis technology, designing efficient storage and treatment solutions, and exploring alternative hydrogen carrier options. Their proven track record spans client projects across all stages – from initial investment planning and permit acquisition to production, import, transport, storage, and even equipment modifications.

VoltH2 is dedicated to establishing and managing extensive green hydrogen production facilities throughout Europe, intending to provide renewable energy to local industries and transportation sectors. The company has obtained permits for three green hydrogen plants in the Netherlands and plans to develop an additional trio in Germany.

André Jurres, CEO of VoltH2, stated that VoltH2 has opted to collaborate with Sweco due to their blend of international scope and local presence in the regions of interest. He noted that Sweco's familiarity with local regulations positions them well to provide guidance throughout the permitting procedures. Additionally, Jurres highlighted Sweco's track record of relevant hydrogen projects and the expertise of their top professionals, emphasizing their proficiency in the required technical aspects.

Sweco, engaged in designing VoltH2's facilities in Vlissingen and Terneuzen, Netherlands, has now been chosen to supply fundamental engineering and design services for the latest plant project in Delfzijl. This expansion underscores VoltH2's commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions across borders, leveraging Sweco's expertise to ensure the efficient development and operation of its green hydrogen infrastructure. With its strategic focus on expanding its footprint and collaborations with industry leaders like Sweco, VoltH2 aims to play a significant role in driving the transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy landscape in Europe.

Åsa Bergman, President and CEO of Sweco, remarked that these are exciting times, requiring swift action from all stakeholders to facilitate the green transition. Bergman noted that Sweco is in a strong position to provide guidance to VoltH2 in this regard, drawing on its extensive specialist knowledge acquired from various hydrogen projects across Europe. She highlighted that Sweco's experts have been actively involved in the project since its investment and permit phases, enabling them to swiftly deliver a comprehensive preliminary design to VoltH2.
