Solus Advanced Materials, a leading South Korean supplier of copper foil, has announced the start of mass production at its second Hungarian plant, as reported by KED Global. This site, currently the only production facility for EV battery copper foil in Europe, boosts the company’s presence in the region significantly. With an annual output capacity of 23,000 tons, the new facility expands Solus’s total copper foil production capacity in Europe to 38,000 tons, combining the 15,000-ton capacity of its first Hungarian plant.

To meet the rapidly growing demand for electric vehicle batteries, Solus plans to build a third Hungarian plant, aiming to achieve a combined capacity of 100,000 tons from all three sites. This ambitious expansion positions Hungary as a key player in Europe’s EV battery supply chain, with Solus solidifying its status as a primary supplier of copper foil in the region. The company’s expanded footprint aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Europe’s local supply of critical EV battery components, reducing reliance on imports and supporting the growth of the European EV market.

Beyond Europe, Solus is working to establish a strong manufacturing presence in North America. The company is currently developing its first copper foil plant in Canada, set to start mass production in 2026. With an initial annual capacity of 25,000 tons, this facility is expected to support Solus’s long-term plans to reach a production volume of 63,000 tons in Canada. This expansion aligns with Solus's strategy to meet increasing demand from North American EV manufacturers, who are seeking reliable and locally sourced components to fuel the transition to electric mobility.

By building production bases in both Europe and North America, Solus Advanced Materials is positioning itself as a vital supplier in the global EV battery market. The strategic locations in Hungary and Canada allow the company to serve two major EV markets with reduced shipping times and a more stable supply chain. The expansions also help Solus respond flexibly to the anticipated surge in demand as automakers scale up their EV production capacities.

Solus’s initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to advancing the EV supply chain globally while aligning with local market needs. Its expansion strategy emphasizes scaling production to match the accelerating adoption of electric vehicles worldwide, supporting the EV industry’s growth by supplying the essential materials required for efficient battery production. Through these developments, Solus is well-positioned to meet the rising demand for EV batteries while playing a critical role in enhancing the sustainability and resilience of the global EV battery supply chain.
