SK chemicals, led by CEO and President Ahn Jae-hyun, will take part in CHINAPLAS 2025, one of the world's top three plastics and chemical industry exhibitions. The event will be held over three days starting April 15 at the Shenzhen World Convention and Exhibition Center in Guangdong Province, China. Recognized alongside the NPE in the United States and the K Show in Germany, CHINAPLAS is the largest exhibition of its kind in Asia and a central platform for showcasing innovation and sustainability in the global plastics industry.
Under the official theme of “Transformation, Collaboration, Sustainability,” CHINAPLAS 2025 is expected to draw over 4,000 companies from approximately 150 countries, making it a key stage for the unveiling of groundbreaking technologies and real-world solutions. SK chemicals will participate with the theme “On-hand solution for sustainable tomorrow,” emphasizing its focus on commercially available sustainable technologies rather than future projections or experimental concepts. This approach underlines SK chemicals’ commitment to delivering practical, scalable materials that are already making a difference in global markets.
The company will highlight its advancements in circular recycling, driven by its proprietary depolymerization technology, which breaks down waste plastics at the molecular level for reuse as raw materials. This method offers a significant edge over traditional mechanical recycling, as it retains material properties—such as clarity, durability, and quality—on par with virgin, petroleum-based plastics. It also expands recyclability to include not just clear bottles but also more complex plastic types like colored containers, films, and trays.
During the exhibition, SK chemicals will showcase a variety of specialty materials that are already in commercial use across multiple industries. These include recycled copolyesters and PET materials currently adopted by leading global brands. For instance, CLARO, a copolyester made from post-consumer PET, is used in beauty packaging for L’Oréal and Estée Lauder. SKYPET CR is featured in eco-conscious products such as Samdasoo bottled water and even in Coldplay’s sustainable vinyl records. Additionally, ECOTRIA CR is already integrated into decorative interior tiles produced by CS Group.
In the field of bio-based materials, SK chemicals will also present products that demonstrate both performance and sustainability in everyday use. These include ECOZEN, a high-heat-resistant copolyester used in kitchen appliances and baby products, and SKYGREEN, a transparent and chemically resistant PETG commonly applied in cosmetic containers and cold beverage cups. Also featured will be ECOTRION, a 100% plant-based polyol utilized in spandex, synthetic leather, and urethane elastomers, and SKYPEL, a polyester-based elastomer offering the combined qualities of rubber and engineering plastics, currently used in automotive parts, industrial hoses, subsea cables, and breathable films.
President Ahn stated that the company’s participation in CHINAPLAS is aimed at demonstrating that a truly sustainable plastic ecosystem is achievable today, not just in theory but through tangible, ready-to-use solutions. He added that SK chemicals will continue to collaborate with industry leaders to accelerate adoption and scale its advanced recycling and sustainable material technologies globally.
