In a landmark move poised to revolutionize electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) have announced a powerful alliance. The two giants have formalized an industry and capital cooperation framework agreement with the ambitious goal of establishing a nationwide network of 10,000 battery swap stations across China. This partnership aims to provide EV owners with a seamless and rapid "swap-as-fast-as-refueling" experience.

The agreement will see Sinopec leverage its extensive nationwide network and customer reach, which includes over 30,000 integrated energy stations, 28,000 Easy Joy convenience stores, and more than 10,000 ultra-fast charging stations serving a staggering 200 million customers daily. This vast infrastructure will provide a robust foundation for the deployment of CATL’s advanced battery swap technology. CATL will contribute its expertise in battery development and swap station technology.

The immediate focus of the collaboration is the rapid deployment of these battery swap stations. The partners have set an ambitious target of constructing no fewer than 500 stations within the current year, signaling a strong commitment to swift implementation. The long-term vision of 10,000 stations underscores the scale of their ambition and the potential impact on China’s transportation landscape. This initiative directly aligns with China’s national strategy to prioritize the development of new infrastructure and promote low-carbon transportation solutions.

Ma Yongsheng, Chairman of Sinopec, emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration, stating, "This partnership marks another significant step in Sinopec's unwavering commitment to energy revolution and green development. By seamlessly integrating our extensive energy supply capabilities, unparalleled nationwide network, and deep customer service expertise with CATL's globally leading battery technology, we are determined to build a comprehensive and efficient energy infrastructure that truly empowers a better and more sustainable life for all."

Dr. Robin Zeng, Chairman and CEO of CATL, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the transformative potential of the joint endeavor. "A reliable and efficient energy replenishment network is absolutely critical to the widespread adoption and sustained growth of electric vehicles. Through this powerful partnership with Sinopec, we will elevate the battery swap model to unprecedented heights, injecting significant fresh momentum into China's journey towards sustainable development and a greener future."

Beyond the immediate deployment of battery swap stations, the partnership between Sinopec and CATL will also strengthen their ongoing collaborations in critical areas such as energy storage solutions and advanced materials research. The two companies are committed to building intelligent energy microgrids, integrating solar power generation, advanced energy storage systems, efficient charging and swapping facilities.
