Siemens Smart Infrastructure and DOMO Chemicals have achieved a key milestone in advancing sustainability within the electrical industry. DOMO has successfully developed and validated a new high-performance TECHNYL® 4EARTH® polyamide 6 (PA6) material, incorporating recycled content and advanced flame-retardant properties. Siemens will integrate this material into its SENTRON 5SV3 residual current circuit breakers (RCCBs), type A/AC, marking the first time recycled polyamide is used in these safety-critical components.
RCCBs play a vital role in electrical safety by quickly cutting power in the event of current imbalances, preventing electrical shocks and fires in residential and commercial installations. With 50% recycled content, including chemically recycled PA6 from post-industrial and post-consumer sources, the new material maintains the same high performance and reliability as conventional materials. The compound also incorporates glass reinforcement for added durability, reducing environmental impact without compromising safety.
“We aim to lead the industry with smart, sustainable technology. It’s now standard for us to use as much sustainable material as possible in new products, helping our customers optimize operations while meeting environmental targets,” said Andreas Matthé, CEO of Electrical Products at Siemens Smart Infrastructure.
The SENTRON 5SV3 RCCBs are certified under Siemens’ new EcoTech label, emphasizing sustainability and longevity. These RCCBs exceed IEC 61008-1 standards, delivering 10,000 operating cycles for enhanced mechanical and electrical durability. Additionally, the standardized accessory system allows seamless upgrades, including auxiliary switches and undervoltage releases, ensuring long-term cost efficiency and adaptability.
The new PA6 compound, TECHNYL 4EARTH C 52G1 V25 CR GY 2747, is UL-certified, meeting rigorous safety and quality standards. It features a phosphorus- and halogen-free flame-retardant system, making it a safer, eco-friendly alternative for high-performance electrical applications. The material is also easily color-customizable, aligning with Siemens' product design requirements.
“At DOMO Chemicals, we help customers lower their carbon footprint without sacrificing performance. Our TECHNYL® 4EARTH® solutions combine high-quality performance with CO2 reduction, and we’re excited to collaborate with Siemens in delivering sustainable materials for the growing electrical industry,” said Juha Jokinen, Chief Commercial Officer of Engineered Materials at DOMO Chemicals.
DOMO’s portfolio includes mechanically and chemically recycled solutions and mass-balance certified options, tailored to meet diverse application needs. By leveraging advanced flame-retardant technologies, DOMO provides low-carbon, laser-markable, and color-customizable alternatives for the electrical and electronics (E&E) market.
Both Siemens and DOMO Chemicals remain committed to expanding the adoption of sustainable materials worldwide. Through depolymerization technology and a robust supplier network, DOMO is advancing eco-friendly polyamide solutions, furthering the shift toward a circular economy in the electrical sector.
