SGT Group, a leading manufacturer of PET preforms and food-grade rPET based in Rezé, Loire-Atlantique, has announced the acquisition of Axium Packaging, a prominent player in the plastic packaging industry. This strategic acquisition significantly enhances SGT’s European market presence, paving the way for growth and innovation in the packaging sector.
Founded in 1981, SGT Group has built a solid reputation for producing high-quality PET preforms, primarily serving the food and beverage sector. Over the years, the company has continually adapted to meet market demands, most notably launching SGR in 2019, a PET recycling facility producing premium rPET under the CIRPET brand. This facility ensures a steady supply of sustainable raw materials for SGT’s customers. In 2023, the company achieved a turnover of over €300 million, with a diverse portfolio of nearly 400 clients across Europe and Africa. With four production sites in Algeria, SGT also focuses on producing PET preforms and HDPE caps. Now, in 2025, SGT continues its strategic expansion through the acquisition of Axium Packaging.
Founded in 1968 in Saint-Étienne, Axium Packaging is a recognized expert in injection and blow molding of bottles, jars, and caps. With six facilities across France, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Germany, and employing 385 people, Axium achieved €76 million in turnover in 2024. The company serves industries including food and beverage, health, hygiene, beauty, and household products. This acquisition will provide SGT Group with enhanced industrial capabilities, expanding its technological offerings while strengthening its commitment to sustainability.
Frédéric Mignot, President of SGT Group, expressed excitement about the acquisition: “This move aligns perfectly with our growth strategy. By integrating Axium Packaging, we enhance our ability to offer innovative, sustainable packaging solutions that cater to our clients’ evolving needs.”
The acquisition brings valuable expertise in injection and extrusion blow molding to SGT Group, expanding its product range and creating synergies that will strengthen its presence in the European market. It also opens new opportunities in sectors like cosmetics, hygiene, and beauty, where sustainability and innovation are paramount.
Yves Cury, President of Axium Packaging, emphasized the shared values between the two companies: “Joining SGT Group presents an exceptional opportunity. We both prioritize innovation and sustainability, responding to the increasing demand for quality and eco-responsible solutions.”
With environmental concerns and regulations continuing to rise, this acquisition underscores SGT’s commitment to promoting rPET packaging solutions, further reducing its carbon footprint. Axium Packaging complements this vision with eco-designed products and a sustainability strategy aligned with international standards such as ISO 26000 and SMETA.
Looking ahead, SGT Group and Axium Packaging are poised to redefine the future of plastic packaging, combining innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence to serve their clients and industries more effectively.
