Röhm Shanghai has earned the internationally recognized ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) PLUS certification for its methyl methacrylate (MMA), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and methacrylate resin products. Additionally, Roehm Chemical (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. has been certified as an ISCC PLUS trading and storage operator. This significant milestone allows Röhm to expand its sustainable product portfolio in China and across Asia, offering its established brands, including MERACRYL®, PLEXIGLAS®, DEGALAN®, and DEGAROUTE®, to customers seeking eco-friendly solutions.
Under its proTerra brand, Röhm has already introduced a broad range of low-carbon-footprint products. These products are manufactured using either recycled PMMA, recycled MMA, or ISCC PLUS-certified sustainable raw materials. ISCC PLUS is a globally recognized certification system that promotes the sustainable production and use of renewable or recycled raw materials. The certification ensures transparency and traceability along the entire value chain and production process, following the principle of mass balancing. This approach integrates sustainable materials without altering the product's quality or functionality, making it easier for customers to adopt eco-friendly alternatives.
“Achieving ISCC PLUS certification is a significant milestone on our roadmap to sustainability in Asia,” said Benjamin Ling, President of Röhm Asia. “With this certification, we can support our customers in China and across Asia by supplying products derived from sustainable resources without compromising on product quality or requiring adjustments to their existing processes.”
This achievement highlights Röhm’s commitment to advancing sustainability on a global scale. The Shanghai site is the company’s first facility outside Germany to receive ISCC PLUS certification, following similar certifications at its Worms and Wesseling production sites in Germany. The Shanghai facility’s certification aligns with Röhm’s broader sustainability goals under its ‘Track 2030’ program, which emphasizes the integration of sustainable practices and the reduction of environmental impact across its operations.
By achieving ISCC PLUS certification, Röhm positions itself as a key supplier of sustainable materials in the rapidly growing Asian market. The certification not only bolsters Röhm’s reputation as a sustainability leader but also provides its customers with the confidence that their products are sourced and manufactured responsibly.
This milestone marks a step forward in meeting the increasing global demand for sustainable materials. By combining innovative production methods with a commitment to sustainability, Röhm strengthens its ability to provide eco-friendly solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future while maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance.
