Lummus Technology, a leading global provider of process technologies and energy solutions, has been awarded a contract by Petronet LNG Ltd. Under this agreement, Petronet will license Lummus' Novolen Polypropylene (PP) technology for a new 500 KTA polypropylene plant in Dahej, Gujarat, India.

Lummus' role in the project includes providing the technology license, basic engineering, training, and catalyst supply for the new polypropylene plant. This plant is designed to address the rising demand for polypropylene in India, bolstering the country’s domestic packaging and consumer goods industries. By enhancing local production capabilities, the project aligns with the Government of India's strategic objectives to stimulate industrial growth, create job opportunities, and promote sustainable development. The plant will not only support the expansion of key sectors but also contribute to the overall economic and environmental goals set by national initiatives.

By boosting domestic Polypropylene production, Petronet LNG aims to decrease reliance on imports and enhance India's economic development. The construction and operation of the new plant are expected to create a substantial number of job opportunities, benefiting the local economy and providing sustainable employment for a skilled workforce. Furthermore, Petronet LNG is committed to sustainability, ensuring that the plant operates with minimal environmental impact. This commitment aligns with both national and global environmental objectives, promoting eco-friendly practices and contributing to long-term environmental stewardship in line with broader sustainability goals.

Romain Lemoine, Chief Business Officer of Polymers and Petrochemicals at Lummus Technology, highlighted that the recent award enhances Novolen’s standing both in India and globally, establishing it as a leader in high-quality polypropylene production. He emphasized that Novolen’s established technology will offer Petronet LNG significant benefits, such as decreased energy usage, increased product flexibility, lower capital and operational expenses, and optimized financial performance over the plant’s entire operational lifespan.
