Pactiv Evergreen Inc., a distinguished manufacturer specializing in the production of fresh food and beverage packaging solutions across North America, has joined forces with ExxonMobil, a pioneering entity renowned for its advanced recycling technologies. This strategic collaboration is poised to deliver certified-circular packaging solutions to major players in the food industry and foodservice providers.

Pactiv Evergreen is on the cusp of introducing certified-circular polypropylene (PP) packaging products to its discerning clientele. This endeavor capitalizes on ExxonMobil's cutting-edge Exxtend™ technology, designed specifically for advanced recycling processes. The resulting products have been meticulously crafted to adhere to the rigorous regulatory prerequisites and specifications required for applications involving contact with food.

Tim Levenda, President of Pactiv Evergreen's Foodservice business unit, shares his perspective on this venture: "Pactiv Evergreen manufactures an extensive portfolio of over 14,000 products encompassing 14 different materials, all dedicated to safeguarding, packaging, and presenting fresh food and beverages. Our profound expertise in materials equips us to offer swift and effective support to our valued customers. Through our partnership with ExxonMobil, we expand our offerings, providing innovative packaging alternatives within our circular packaging portfolio."

ExxonMobil's Exxtend technology represents a revolutionary approach capable of significantly broadening the spectrum of plastic materials amenable to recycling. A pivotal feature of this technology is its capacity to yield performance and quality on par with virgin plastics. The Exxtend process operates by meticulously deconstructing plastic waste into its molecular constituents. This deconstruction process lays the foundation for the creation of a myriad of valuable new products, including polypropylene (PP), achieved through a mass balance methodology. In this collaborative endeavor, Pactiv Evergreen will undergo a transformative process, converting ExxonMobil's PP materials into packaging solutions that proudly bear the prestigious International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus certified-circular designation. The ISCC PLUS certification is a globally recognized third-party validation process, meticulously tailored for circular content, offering exhaustive traceability throughout the entire supply chain.

Olivier Lorge, Global Marketing Manager responsible for Polypropylene, Vistamaxx™, and Exact™ at ExxonMobil, expresses unwavering enthusiasm regarding the potential impact of this partnership: "We are thrilled to embark on this journey alongside Pactiv Evergreen and other stakeholders within the value chain. Together, we are poised to forge new avenues that bolster the circular economy for plastics. Within the foodservice industry, we perceive a substantial opportunity to address the escalating demand for circular products, all while upholding performance and safety standards for PP products used in food-contact applications."

This collaborative alliance between Pactiv Evergreen and ExxonMobil underscores their shared commitment to propelling sustainability and circularity to the forefront of the food packaging sector. By harnessing ExxonMobil's cutting-edge advanced recycling technology and combining it with Pactiv Evergreen's unrivaled expertise in packaging solutions, this initiative aspires to deliver groundbreaking and innovative answers to the surging demand for circular and eco-friendly products. These solutions will play a pivotal role, particularly within the foodservice industry, ensuring the continued progress of sustainable practices in food packaging.
