Texas, USA: While supporting the Circular Economy goals in the tire industry, the Orion Engineered Carbons recently attained a sustainability milestone by becoming the first ever Carbon Black manufacturer to accomplish International Sustainability and Carbon Certifications. The Organisation has achieved this ISCC plus certification for several Carbon Black grades manufactured at different sites. These certified grades include Ecorax Circular Grade, used for rubber enforcement and produced in Borger, Texas, and Belpre, Ohio, using pyrolysis oils extracted from end-life tires. Additionally, the certification is extended to Ecorax Nature 200, manufactured in Jaslo, Poland, from Bio-circular feedstocks.

Orion’s CEO said that this renowned certification would further strengthen the position of Orion Engineered Carbons in the global market for creating a sustainable solution for the tire and mechanical industries. Orion also claimed that these newly certified products are mostly like their conventional counterparts and only require minimal reformations in their rubber compounds. Orion added that to get the certification, they had to comply with several audits of their Carbon Black manufacturing plants and processes to prove their compliance with sustainability requirements.

The certification authorities also confirmed that the raw material used for Carbon Black manufacturing and its values chain at three different plants meet the sustainability goals. The CEO added that this adaptation of sustainable products in the tire industry is a massive step towards achieving a circular economy. As per the recent assessment of the Carbon Black market in the USA, the Carbon Black prices were stable. The assessed price value for Carbon Black Hard Grade N220 was USD 3320/MT FOB Texas, which indicated a rise of 0.3% in the domestic market.

As per ChemAnalyst anticipations, “This step towards a circular economy with sustainability adaption is a big and crucial decision made by Orion Engineered Carbons, and on top of it, getting globally recognized certifications would further enhance the market presence of this already well-accomplished organization.”
