Origem Energia has solidified its position as a key player in the Brazilian energy sector by taking over operations of the Maceió Waterway Terminal (TAMAC) MAC11A within the Port of Maceió. This move, finalized on February 17, 2025, grants the company control over a crucial infrastructure asset for the movement and storage of liquid bulk, primarily fuels and oil. The acquisition marks a significant expansion for Origem Energia, coming three years after its acquisition of the Alagoas Hub and further integrating its energy solutions offering.
The MAC11A terminal, located in the strategically important Port of Maceió, is designed for the handling of liquid bulk cargo, making it a vital link in the energy supply chain. For Origem Energia, this acquisition translates into greater control over the logistics of its production. The company anticipates that this increased control will ultimately lead to more affordable fuel options for the local population.
The integration of MAC11A into Origem Energia’s portfolio provides several key advantages. Beyond securing independence in its supply chain, the company gains greater commercial flexibility in negotiating oil volumes and optimizing cargo shipping schedules. This control allows Origem Energia to proactively manage its logistics, leading to increased efficiency and cost savings.
The terminal's capabilities extend beyond maritime transport, also facilitating road transportation of fuels. This multimodal access is crucial for serving a broader market and ensuring the efficient distribution of essential energy products. The terminal handles a variety of fuels, including ethanol, marine diesel oil, gasoline, and biofuels like biodiesel, further diversifying Origem Energia's reach within the energy sector.
Luiz Felipe Coutinho, CEO of Origem Energia, emphasized the strategic importance of the terminal acquisition. “Assuming control of TAMAC’s operations ensures our independence in the flow and commercialization of our production,” Coutinho stated. “It strengthens our presence in the Alagoas market, promoting local competitiveness that can impact the supply of more affordable fuels for the population.”
Origem Energia also sees significant potential in diversifying its revenue streams through the strategic use of the terminal's storage capacity. The company plans to offer storage services to a wider range of customers, capitalizing on the demand for secure and reliable storage solutions for oil derivatives. This move not only generates additional revenue but also strengthens Origem Energia’s position as a comprehensive energy solutions provider.
Coutinho further highlighted the importance of the acquisition in terms of vertical integration. “Oil logistics and storage are strategic pillars of our operations,” he explained. “Taking control of these activities allows us to overcome our dependence on third parties, reducing costs, increasing autonomy, and further integrating our value chain. This initiative strengthens our position as a highly efficient and integrated company in the sector.”
