Oriental Yuhong Waterproof Technology Co. recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new production, R&D, and logistics base in Prairie View, Texas, marking a significant step in the company’s global expansion. The event, held in the Prairie View Industrial Park, drew nearly 100 attendees, including government officials, partners, and representatives from institutions such as Prairie View A&M University, the Small Business Development Center, LyondellBasell Industries, Exxon Mobil, KraussMaffei, BASF, and Powers Brown Architecture.

The Houston project, which is being developed in phases, will play a crucial role in Oriental Yuhong’s strategy to strengthen its presence in North America. The initial phase includes building production lines for thermoplastic polyolefins (TPO) waterproof membranes and setting up a North American research and development center. This phase is expected to be completed by 2025 and will create approximately 100 jobs in the local community. The second phase will expand the site’s capacity by building additional production lines and plants for thermal insulation, sand powder, and pipelines.

Upon completion, the new base will allow Oriental Yuhong to focus on manufacturing waterproof materials and mortar powder while exploring new sales channels. The company aims to leverage its enhanced capacity and local presence to foster win-win collaborations with industry partners.

Liu Bin, Vice Board Chairman of Oriental Yuhong, highlighted Houston’s strong industrial base, strategic location, and favorable investment climate as key factors in the decision to build the facility there. He emphasized that this project aligns with Oriental Yuhong’s broader globalization strategy, which focuses on advancing research and technology, creating value, and delivering superior service experiences to customers in North America and beyond. Liu expressed the company’s commitment to actively exploring sustainable development pathways as it continues its global expansion.

Li Jianjun, General Manager of Oriental Yuhong’s North America Branch, underscored the importance of TPO, noting that it is one of the most widely used waterproof roofing materials in industrial and commercial construction. He emphasized the strong demand in the North American construction materials market, which presents substantial growth opportunities for TPO products. According to Li, this new base marks Oriental Yuhong’s first industrial park in North America and serves as a significant milestone in its journey toward global expansion. He added that the company is optimistic about the project’s prospects and plans to refine its operations to achieve stable and sustainable growth.

Greg Zenner, Polymer Business Manager at LyondellBasell Industries, emphasized the potential for deeper collaboration between his company and Oriental Yuhong. He expressed hope that the two companies could build on their successful cooperation to jointly expand into international markets, leveraging their complementary strengths for mutual benefit.

The new Houston base represents not only Oriental Yuhong’s commitment to global growth but also its strategic vision of fostering innovation and strengthening its market position in North America.
