OPAL Fuels Inc, a prominent player in the renewable natural gas (RNG) sector, has announced a significant expansion of its production capabilities through the acquisition of development rights for four new landfill RNG production facilities. This strategic move, executed via joint venture partnerships, is poised to substantially increase OPAL Fuels' contribution to decarbonizing heavy-duty transportation and industrial sectors.

The newly secured projects are projected to deliver a combined annual design capacity of 1.5 million MMBtu, representing OPAL Fuels' 50% share in the ventures. Upon reaching full operational capacity, these facilities are expected to produce approximately 20 million gasoline gallon equivalents (GGE) of RNG annually. This substantial output underscores OPAL Fuels' commitment to scaling its operations and bolstering its position as a leader in the RNG market.

The company has commenced development and engineering work on the project sites, with construction anticipated to begin throughout 2025. This timeline reflects OPAL Fuels' proactive approach to rapidly bringing these new facilities online and contributing to the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.

Jonathan Maurer, Co-CEO of OPAL Fuels, expressed enthusiasm about the company's latest development, stating, "We are very excited about adding these four new projects to our RNG portfolio. As we continue to scale our operations and expand our pipeline of landfill gas projects, we continue to make a real impact on decarbonizing heavy-duty trucking fleets and providing clean energy for homes and businesses."

OPAL Fuels specializes in capturing and converting biogas, primarily from landfills, into low carbon intensity RNG and renewable electricity. The company's comprehensive approach extends beyond production to include the marketing and distribution of RNG, particularly to heavy-duty trucking and other hard-to-decarbonize industrial sectors. By focusing on these critical areas, OPAL Fuels plays a pivotal role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fostering a cleaner energy future.

The expansion comes at a crucial time as industries and governments increasingly prioritize decarbonization efforts. RNG, derived from organic waste, offers a significant advantage over traditional fossil fuels by significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and leveraging existing infrastructure. OPAL Fuels' focus on landfill gas projects taps into a readily available resource, converting methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into a valuable energy source.

This development further solidifies OPAL Fuels' commitment to capturing North America's naturally occurring methane and decarbonizing the economy. The company's ongoing efforts demonstrate a clear vision for a future where renewable energy plays a central role in powering transportation and industry, reducing environmental impact and driving economic growth.
