Oleon, a subsidiary of Avril and a global leader in natural-based oleochemicals, has taken a significant step in its international growth strategy by acquiring a majority interest in A. Azevedo Óleos, a leading Brazilian oleochemical company specializing in castor oil and its derivatives. This acquisition strengthens Oleon's presence in the fast-growing South American market, particularly in Brazil, and supports its long-term vision for sustainable growth.

"This acquisition marks a pivotal moment for Oleon's expansion into South America," said Moussa Naciri, CEO of Oleon. "With our established presence in Europe and Asia, along with recent investments in the U.S., it was essential to solidify our position in Brazil, where we see significant long-term growth potential, particularly in lubricants and personal care sectors."

Andrés Morales, a member of the founding family who will remain as CEO of A.Azevedo Óleos, commented, "This is a significant milestone for A.Azevedo Óleos and will bring great benefits to all stakeholders. It’s an honor to partner with Oleon to build a stronger future together."

The acquisition provides Oleon with a strategic advantage in expanding into the South American market, especially Brazil, which offers substantial growth opportunities. By integrating A.Azevedo Óleos into its global network, Oleon enhances its ability to serve its global customer base more effectively while expanding its product portfolio with the company’s well-regarded castor oil derivatives.

Jean-Philippe Puig, CEO of Avril, highlighted the acquisition’s broader importance for the group: "Diversifying our geographical reach aligns with Avril’s new strategic plan, 'Ambition 2030.' This move strengthens our commitment to sustainable agriculture and renewable bio-based solutions. Sourcing key raw materials locally supports both environmental sustainability and the well-being of rural communities, which aligns perfectly with Avril’s mission to Serve the Earth."

Aligned with Avril’s focus on sustainability, A.Azevedo Óleos collaborates with local farmers to promote sustainable castor seed farming, supporting Oleon’s drive for environmentally responsible agriculture. This local sourcing not only boosts rural economies, especially in Bahia where castor seed farming is vital, but also supports Oleon’s broader goal of fostering local development and preserving natural resources.

Oleon, a subsidiary of Avril, is a leading European company in the oleochemicals sector, specializing in converting vegetable oils and animal fats into products such as fatty acids, glycerin, dimers, esters, and other specialty chemicals. These sustainable solutions play a vital role in a wide range of everyday products across industries like cosmetics, food, and industrial applications. As a member of Avril, Oleon leverages robust upstream integration and focuses strategically on innovation and sustainability. Headquartered in Ertvelde, Belgium, Oleon operates seven production sites across Belgium, Germany, France, the UK, the US, and Malaysia. In 2023, the company generated a turnover of approximately 1 billion euros and employs 1,200 people worldwide.
