Ohmium International (“Ohmium”), a prominent green hydrogen firm specializing in the design, manufacture, and deployment of advanced Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, is initiating a partnership with HYGRO, a Dutch green hydrogen provider. This collaboration commences with a hydrogen production and distribution project in North Holland.
In this pioneering pilot project, Ohmium PEM electrolyzers will be combined with HYGRO wind turbines at the EWEF Wind Park in Wieringerwerf. Together, they will generate green hydrogen destined for distribution to fueling stations across the region. Additionally, the wind turbines will have a direct connection to the electricity grid. By situating the PEM electrolyzers alongside the wind turbines, a dependable and stable electricity supply to the grid is ensured, even amidst varying wind conditions.
Scheduled to commence in 2025, the pilot project entails 5.4MW of PEM Electrolyzers, with prospects for expansion down the line. Ohmium and HYGRO possess complementary technologies and aligning objectives. Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzers and electrochemical solutions are tailored for industrial and transportation uses, whereas HYGRO endeavors to create a competitive integrated hydrogen production and distribution system. Leveraging its iBundle and pulsed power technologies, HYGRO aims to establish a "wind & solar to wheel" value chain.
"Aligned with HYGRO's vision, Ohmium envisions an integrated green hydrogen supply chain that drives sustainability and eliminates fossil fuel reliance," stated Arne Ballantine, CEO of Ohmium. "HYGRO demonstrates a strong commitment to addressing pivotal challenges in green hydrogen distribution, which holds significant promise for the Netherlands and the European Union. With their progress towards realizing this vision, we eagerly anticipate contributing to the establishment of such an ecosystem."
"Through Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzers and state-of-the-art power electronics, seamless integration with HYGRO’s wind turbines is achieved, facilitating streamlined, efficient, and cost-effective green hydrogen production," remarked Hugo Groenemans, CEO of HYGRO. " HYGRO looks forward to working together to build a sustainable energy supply chain throughout the Netherlands."
Ohmium develops, produces, and implements modular, adaptable proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, facilitating cost-effective green hydrogen production. The company's range of electrochemical solutions aids clients in reaching their sustainability objectives for various industrial, transportation, and energy initiatives. Based in the United States, with manufacturing plants in India and a global presence, Ohmium boasts a green hydrogen project pipeline exceeding 2 GW spanning three continents. In 2023, Ohmium obtained $250 million in Series C financing, led by TPG Rise Climate.
HYGRO presents an adaptable, cost-effective approach for early-market green hydrogen production. Leveraging the interplay between wind, solar, direct electrolysis, and pipelines, this synergy doubles renewable energy output at a reduced cost per unit compared to electricity. By utilizing hydrogen as the main energy carrier across the entire process, HYGRO endeavors to supply green hydrogen promptly, efficiently, and affordably, meeting end-users' needs in terms of timing, location, and quantity. The company's goal is to establish, construct, and manage a sustainable, integrated supply chain with hydrogen as the core energy carrier.
