US: Nucor Corp, a Steelmaker based in Charlotte, North Carolina, has announced the closure of its Longview, Texas electric arc furnace (EAF) mill as part of a reorganization of its Steel Plate group. The Longview mill had an annual capacity of 100,000 tons, which Nucor plans to absorb into its new facility in Brandenburg, Kentucky, and other Nucor plants.

According to the Steel producer, Nucor, all teammates at Nucor Steel Longview will be provided with employment opportunities in other divisions. Nucor purchased the facility from Joy Global, a Milwaukee-based company, for around $29 million in 2016. Joy Global was later acquired by Komatsu, a heavy equipment maker, in the same year.

Nucor has announced that it will assess the assets at its Longview mill, which is known for producing heavy Steel plate, and may consider reallocating them to other Nucor mills.

Nucor has announced that it anticipates the discontinuation of production to take place in Q3 of this year. The production will be shifted to Nucor's existing plate mills, including the one located in Brandenburg along with other facilities situated in Hertford County, North Carolina, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
