Nouryon, a global leader in specialty chemicals, announced on November 12 that it has successfully completed expanding its capacity for organic peroxides at its manufacturing facility in Ningbo, China. This expansion has doubled the production capacity to 6,000 tons each of Perkadox14 and Trigonox101 organic peroxide products.
These essential ingredients are used to modify polymer properties and crosslink rubbers and thermoplastics. Notably, they play a crucial role in enhancing the properties of recycled polypropylene (R-PP), enabling its use in applications previously limited to virgin plastics.
“This expansion underscores our dedication to supporting our customers’ growth across the entire polymer cycle,” said Alain Rynwalt, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials at Nouryon in a company issued presser. “As consumer awareness and regulatory standards evolve, the demand for improved recycled polypropylene properties continues to rise.”
The Ningbo expansion is part of a series of investments Nouryon has made to strengthen its manufacturing network in China. In 2021, the company announced the establishment of a greenfield organic peroxide manufacturing facility in Tianjin and a new tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) and tert-Butyl alcohol (TBA) manufacturing facility in Ningbo.
“Asia Pacific is a key region for Nouryon, and this expansion reinforces our supply position in this growing market,” said Sobers Sethi, Senior Vice President at Nouryon. “Our customers rely on our extensive network of manufacturing facilities and innovative technologies, and we are committed to meeting their evolving needs.”
Nouryon’s investment in this capacity expansion aligns with the growing global focus on sustainability and circular economy principles. By enabling the broader use of recycled plastics, the company is contributing to a more sustainable future.
