MAIRE (MAIRE.MI) announces that NEXTCHEM (Sustainable Technology Solutions), through its subsidiary CONSER, a technology licensor for high-value chemical derivatives and biodegradable plastics, has been awarded a feasibility study in North America by a leading industrial player. The study seeks to enhance the efficiency of an existing maleic anhydride (MAN) facility that is integrated into a malic and fumaric acid manufacturing plant.

The feasibility study will focus on revamping the facility by assessing opportunities to enhance the efficiency of maleic anhydride production through the application of CONSER's proprietary MAN technology. This includes evaluating the potential for increasing the plant's capacity.

Maleic anhydride serves various industrial purposes, including as an intermediate for producing malic acid and fumaric acid. These acids are used to improve the texture, flavor, and stability of food products. Specifically, malic acid functions as an acidity regulator, maintaining desired pH levels and enhancing the flavor of foods and beverages. Additionally, malic acid is a precursor to fumaric acid, which is also used as a food additive for similar functions.

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, remarked: "This agreement highlights the versatility of NEXTCHEM’s advanced technology solutions, strengthening our presence in new regions. CONSER solidifies its position as a global leader in maleic anhydride technology and reinforces its role as a premier technology provider, while also enhancing production processes at existing facilities."
