Neste and PCS Pte. Ltd., a leading essential chemicals company based in Singapore, have formed a strategic partnership to introduce renewable solutions to Southeast Asia’s chemicals industry. The collaboration focuses on replacing fossil-based raw materials with renewable alternatives in the production of chemicals and plastics across the region. Neste will supply PCS with Neste RE™, a renewable material made from sustainable feedstocks like used cooking oil and residues from vegetable oil processing. This renewable solution will replace traditional fossil raw materials in the production processes at PCS's facilities on Jurong Island, Singapore.
PCS will utilize Neste RE to produce essential chemicals such as ethylene, propylene, and butadiene, which are critical for various applications in industries across Southeast Asia. The first deliveries of these renewable products, including butadiene, will be made to key customers such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Toray Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn Berhad, and Synthomer Sdn Bhd. These products, derived from an International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC)-certified supply chain, will maintain the same quality, safety, and performance standards as fossil-based products. However, by using renewable raw materials, the carbon footprint of these products will be significantly reduced.
Hisashi Shibayama, Managing Director at PCS, highlighted that this partnership marks the creation of one of the region’s first ISCC-certified renewable value chains for butadiene. He emphasized that this initiative not only reflects PCS’s commitment to decreasing its reliance on virgin raw materials but also aligns with the growing demand from customers for more sustainable solutions. This partnership lays the groundwork for PCS’s long-term vision of establishing a sustainable chemicals ecosystem in the region.
Jeroen Verhoeven, Commercial Director for Polymers and Chemicals at Neste, expressed excitement about this new milestone for Neste RE in Singapore. He welcomed PCS as a partner in the effort to phase out fossil raw materials in chemicals and plastics production. Verhoeven stressed that this collaboration will contribute to reducing Scope 3 emissions in a highly effective and impactful way, helping companies across Southeast Asia transition to more sustainable practices. This partnership between Neste and PCS represents a significant step forward in the region's shift towards greener, more sustainable chemical production.
Neste leverages science and innovative technology to convert waste and other resources into renewable fuels and circular raw materials. The company develops solutions to address climate change and drive the transition to a circular economy. As the global leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel production, and a pioneer in creating renewable and circular feedstock solutions for polymers and chemicals, Neste is committed to helping its customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tons each year by 2030.
