Neogen® Corporation, a leader in food safety solutions, unveiled today the introduction of CelluSmart technology from Megazyme® by Neogen. This new technology is designed for measuring cellulosic ethanol in biofuel production.

Neogen has introduced an innovative technology by enhancing the established procedure from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and incorporating a yeast-degrading cocktail (YDC). These advancements with CelluSmart enable the ethanol industry to fully capitalize on its low-carbon fuel production efforts, reflected in the value of D3 RINs generated from in-situ production.

Cellulosic ethanol offers a 60% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional petroleum-based fuels, contributing significantly to climate goals. The CelluSmart technology can assist ethanol producers in further lowering carbon intensity scores. This reduction, combined with other factors, could enable access to new markets, including sustainable aviation fuel.

"The ethanol industry has been a remarkable success in delivering low-carbon renewable energy," said John Adent, President and Chief Executive Officer of Neogen. "With the introduction of CelluSmart technology, we can further utilize our expertise in fiber and carbohydrate method development to support the industry's growth and contribute to creating a more sustainable world."

" Dr. Jason Lilly, Vice President of the Americas and Australia/New Zealand at Neogen, emphasized Neogen's longstanding commitment as a trusted partner to the biofuel industry, forged through extensive collaboration in the food safety sector. "We are excited to offer producers this much-anticipated technology and to further solidify our partnership with the industry as we work towards a more sustainable future."

The CelluSmart technology is integrated into ASTM Method E-3417-24, which complies with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) criteria for an approved method from a voluntary consensus standards organization.
