Swedish packaging leader Nefab Group has significantly expanded its manufacturing operations in Zapopan, a suburb of Guadalajara in western Mexico. The company has constructed a 58,000-square-foot facility dedicated to producing sustainable plastic packaging for industries such as data communications, electronics, and automotive manufacturing.

In a March 24 press release, Nefab did not disclose the financial investment in the new plant but confirmed that it will employ 50 people once it reaches full operational capacity. This expansion doubles the company’s production footprint in Zapopan, strengthening its ability to deliver eco-friendly packaging solutions.

Nefab already operates another site in Zapopan where it manufactures packaging products made of corrugated material, foam, wood, and plywood. Additionally, the company produces heavy-gauge thermoformed products in León, about 140 miles northeast of Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-largest city. The new facility will focus on “end-to-end sustainable plastics solutions,” integrating in-house design, production, and packaging reuse to support lithium battery, e-mobility, automotive electronics, and data communications manufacturers.

Specializing in thin-gauge thermoforming, the new plant will produce recyclable trays and cushioning solutions that optimize primary packaging. "By leveraging automatic thermoforming technology, the operation enables scalable production while addressing industry demands for cost-effective and environmentally friendly packaging," Nefab stated. This expansion aligns with the company's broader sustainability goals, focusing on reducing material waste and improving packaging efficiency.

Eric Wickman, regional managing director for Latin America, emphasized the benefits of managing the entire process in-house. “From design to production and recycling, we help customers reduce material use, costs, and environmental impact,” he said.

Patric Vestlund, Nefab’s executive vice president for the Americas, highlighted the strategic importance of Mexico’s growing market. “Mexico is experiencing incredible growth, and Guadalajara has become a major hub for technology, manufacturing, and innovation. Expanding our capacity here allows us to be where our customers are, reducing logistics costs and improving supply chain efficiency,” he stated. “This is how we work—partnering with clients through our strong engineering backbone to develop tailored solutions that optimize resources, lower costs, and drive sustainability.”

By doubling its manufacturing capacity in Mexico, Nefab strengthens its position as a key provider of sustainable packaging solutions, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

Nefab optimizes supply chains to conserve both environmental and financial resources. By collaborating with customers, the company develops innovative packaging and logistics solutions while upholding strong ethical standards and a commitment to people. This approach fosters a more sustainable future for its customers, society, and the environment.

With over 75 years of experience and a presence in more than 38 countries, Nefab delivers global solutions with localized service to industries such as Telecom, Datacom, Semicon, Energy, Healthcare, Mining & Construction, and LiB & E-mobility. The Nefab Group employs over 4,900 people worldwide and generates an annual revenue of $966 million.
