Global manufacturer Milliken & Company has officially inaugurated its first chemical manufacturing facility in Asia, located in Singapore.

Cindy Boiter, Executive Vice President and President of Milliken’s Chemical Business, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, "Opening this new facility represents the beginning of the next chapter of our journey in Asia." This investment signifies Milliken's long-term vision for growth and its dedication to the Asian continent.

The state-of-the-art operation is the latest investment by Milliken in Encapsys' cutting-edge microencapsulation technology. Encapsys, a global leader in microencapsulation with over seven decades of pioneering patented solutions, was acquired by Milliken in 2021. This integration of expertise and technology will enable Milliken to deliver enhanced product offerings and respond more efficiently to evolving customer needs across various industries.

Ed Zhao, Senior Vice President and Asia Managing Director at Milliken, highlighted the strategic rationale behind the new facility. "This new facility is a testament to our dedication to meet growing demand in this dynamic region," he affirmed. The Singapore location will provide increased flexibility and speed in supporting customers, ensuring timely delivery and tailored solutions.

The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) played a crucial role in facilitating this significant investment. Kelly Lai, Vice President, Chemicals and Material at EDB, expressed enthusiasm about Milliken's decision. "Milliken's decision to establish its first Asian chemical plant here reflects its confidence in Singapore’s position as a strategic hub for specialty chemicals in the region," Lai stated. She further added that the new plant's advanced manufacturing capabilities would bolster Singapore's chemicals ecosystem and cater to the increasing needs of sectors such as consumer goods and healthcare. "We continue to welcome like-minded partners such as Milliken to tap on Singapore’s capabilities and connectivity, to create cutting-edge material solutions for the world," she concluded.

According to EDB reports, Milliken's investment in Singapore underscores the country's attractiveness as a key location for specialty chemical manufacturing in Asia. Singapore's robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and geographical location make it an ideal hub for companies looking to expand their presence in the region.

This new manufacturing facility in Singapore marks a significant step in Milliken's global growth strategy. By establishing a strong manufacturing base in Asia, the company is poised to capitalize on the region's economic dynamism and strengthen its position as a leading provider of advanced material solutions. The investment in Encapsys' microencapsulation technology further enhances Milliken's capabilities, enabling it to deliver innovative products and services to meet the evolving demands of the Asian market.
