MediSun Energy is excited to announce the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SEONGGWANG E&F (SK ENF). This partnership aims to combine SK ENF's Magnesium Mineral Carbonation Technology with MediSun's Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) Technology, aiming to develop sustainable and efficient solutions for brine treatment within the desalination industry.

The desalination sector confronts issues related to significant energy usage and environmental consequences associated with brine disposal. Conventional approaches are both energy-intensive and detrimental to marine ecosystems due to excessive brine discharge. Through the integration of their technologies, MediSun Energy and SK ENF aspire to tackle these challenges and establish a benchmark for sustainable desalination practices.

SK ENF's microbubble reaction technology captures carbon dioxide (CO2) and transforms desalination brine into magnesium carbonate (MgCO3), thereby reducing the pretreatment costs typically associated with RED, which involves removing magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca). This integration enhances the efficiency of RED membranes and converts Mg and Ca into valuable resources, effectively turning pretreatment into a dual-purpose process for resource production and carbon capture. As a result, for every tonne of brine processed, MediSun can extract 8 kg of MgCO3 and offset 3.1 kg of CO2, contributing significantly towards achieving net carbon neutrality in the desalination and brine treatment processes.

The partnership will involve collaborative technical assessments, feasibility studies, and strategic planning to ensure the smooth integration and improved performance of their combined technology. Both companies will evaluate market demand and establish pilot plants to verify the effectiveness and economic feasibility of the technology.

Dusun Kim, CEO of MediSun Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with SK ENF, aiming to integrate their technologies and advance the capabilities of desalination. This partnership represents a significant stride in their dedication to sustainable and energy-efficient water solutions.

Dr. Hong Wonseok, CEO of SK ENF, remarked, "Partnering with MediSun Energy is a strategic initiative to strengthen our technological prowess and promote sustainability in the desalination sector. This collaboration underscores our dedication to pioneering innovations that tackle key challenges in water sustainability."

MediSun Energy's technology is celebrated for its substantial energy conservation, elimination of brine discharge, and achievement of net-zero carbon emissions. Moreover, it enables customers to generate additional revenue through brine mining, particularly by extracting magnesium carbonate. This adaptable and economical technology can be seamlessly integrated into existing reverse osmosis (RO) systems, making it suitable for diverse desalination applications.

MediSun Energy is a technology-focused company committed to delivering clean and cost-effective energy solutions. Our groundbreaking WEGEN Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) technology transforms saltwater into electricity, harnessing the ocean's renewable energy potential. Dedicated to achieving a net-carbon neutral future, we aspire to foster a world where all energy sources are clean and sustainable, blending commercial viability with eco-friendly practices.
