MAIRE, a global leader in engineering and technology solutions for the energy transition, has announced that its subsidiary, NextChem Tech, has been awarded a significant three-year contract by SATORP (Saudi Aramco TotalEnergies Refining and Petrochemical Company) to provide engineering and technology services for the Sulfur Recovery Complex at their Jubail refinery in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The contract, awarded to NextChem Tech, the Sustainable Technology Solutions arm of MAIRE, focuses on optimizing the performance of the Sulfur Recovery Complex, which comprises the Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU), Amine Regeneration Unit (ARU), and Sour Water Stripper (SWS). NextChem Tech will deliver comprehensive process and engineering advisory services aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, resolving operational challenges, and significantly reducing the complex's energy consumption and carbon footprint.
Specifically, NextChem Tech's scope of work includes providing expert recommendations for capital investment opportunities, design enhancements, and technology improvements. By leveraging its deep expertise in sulfur recovery and related processes, the company will help SATORP achieve significant improvements in its environmental performance and operational reliability.
The services provided will go beyond routine maintenance and troubleshooting, encompassing a strategic approach to long-term sustainability. NextChem Tech will conduct thorough analyses to identify areas for improvement, propose innovative solutions, and support the implementation of cutting-edge technologies. This proactive approach will enable SATORP to not only meet current environmental standards but also anticipate and adapt to future regulatory requirements.
This contract represents a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between MAIRE and SATORP. It further builds upon the strong relationship established through TECNIMONT's multibillion-dollar petrochemical expansion project, known as the Amiral project, awarded in June 2023. This continuity of partnership highlights MAIRE's ability to deliver consistent, high-quality solutions across a range of projects and technologies.
Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, emphasized the strategic importance of this agreement, stating, "This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to drive sustainability and efficiency in the refining industry. This agreement not only strengthens our relationship with SATORP, after TECNIMONT's multibillion-dollar petrochemical expansion project awarded in June 2023 – so called Amiral project – but also underscores our commitment to delivering cutting-edge engineering and technology solutions that reduce environmental impact."
The Jubail refinery, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and TotalEnergies, is a critical component of Saudi Arabia's refining infrastructure. By partnering with NextChem Tech, SATORP is demonstrating its commitment to adopting best-in-class technologies and practices to ensure the long-term sustainability of its operations.
