Linde Engineering has entered into an agreement with NEXTCHEM to deliver advanced carbon capture technology for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (ADNOC) Hail and Ghasha project. Situated in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this project is recognized as one of the largest offshore sour gas developments globally, with a goal of achieving net-zero emissions. Linde will implement its innovative HISORP® CC technology, which employs an adsorption-based method to efficiently capture and purify carbon dioxide (CO2) for sequestration (CCS), thereby greatly reducing greenhouse gas emissions in natural gas and oil production processes.

In line with ADNOC's strategy to reduce carbon emissions, the Hail and Ghasha project is set to capture and store up to 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year (mtpa) underground. Linde will supply not only its carbon capture technology but also the essential core units, collaborating closely with NEXTCHEM, a division of Italy's MAIRE Group, a leading global provider of technology and engineering solutions.

John van der Velden, Senior Vice President of Global Sales & Technology at Linde Engineering, expressed pride in being selected as the technology provider for this significant project, emphasizing its alignment with Linde’s commitment to supporting the decarbonization of energy production and industry. He noted that the HISORP® CC technology, deployed in this large-scale initiative, plays a vital role in ADNOC’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions.

Distinct from traditional chemical-based amine systems, Linde’s HISORP® CC solution is powered entirely by renewable energy, making it an electrically-driven option. This technology merges pressure swing adsorption with cryogenic separation and compression, enabling CO2 capture rates exceeding 99 percent. Notably, the process does not rely on steam for regeneration, preventing any increase in the carbon footprint.

Furthermore, Linde intends to implement its HISORP® carbon capture technology at its newly announced large-scale integrated clean hydrogen and atmospheric gases facility. This facility will supply clean hydrogen to Dow’s Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero Project in Alberta, Canada, further reinforcing Linde’s commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives across multiple projects globally.

Linde is a leading global provider of industrial gases and engineering solutions, with sales reaching $33 billion in 2023. The company is dedicated to enhancing productivity worldwide by offering high-quality technologies, services, and solutions that empower customers to achieve success while promoting sustainability, decarbonization, and environmental protection.

Linde serves a diverse range of industries, including chemicals and energy, food and beverage, electronics, healthcare, manufacturing, and metals and mining. Its industrial gases and technologies are utilized in numerous applications, such as the production of clean hydrogen, carbon capture systems essential for the energy transition, life-saving medical oxygen, and high-purity specialty gases for the electronics sector. Furthermore, Linde provides cutting-edge gas processing solutions designed to help customers expand their operations, improve efficiency, and reduce emissions.
