Linde plc, headquartered in Woking, U.K., has initiated the supply of captured carbon dioxide to Celanese Corp. in Dallas, Texas, sourced from Linde's state-of-the-art carbon monoxide and hydrogen production facility in Clear Lake, Texas. This collaborative effort is designed to utilize the captured carbon dioxide, along with clean hydrogen and other carbon dioxide sources, as feedstock for methanol production with a reduced carbon intensity at Celanese's Fairway Methanol LLC joint venture with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in Tokyo. Linde, which currently provides carbon monoxide, oxygen, and nitrogen to Celanese from its Clear Lake facility and U.S. Gulf Coast pipeline system, is expanding the supply as part of their existing long-term agreement.

Mark Murray, Senior Vice President of Acetyls at Celanese, emphasized the company's commitment to producing goods with a lower carbon footprint by repurposing emitted carbon dioxide. He expressed satisfaction in collaborating with Linde to reduce the carbon intensity of methanol, a crucial raw material widely used in various everyday products.

Amer Akhras, Vice President South Region at Linde, highlighted Linde's active support for its customers' decarbonization objectives. He expressed pride in expanding the partnership with Celanese, involving investments in the Clear Lake facility to facilitate the production of essential chemicals with a lower carbon intensity.

As a leading industrial gases and engineering company, Linde plays a pivotal role in the ongoing clean energy transition. The company actively assists its customers in decarbonizing their operations by leveraging the latest carbon capture and hydrogen technologies through its world-class engineering organization, strategic alliances and ventures, and extensive experience and infrastructure. Linde is at the forefront of developing clean energy projects across a range of applications and industries while simultaneously expanding its established business along the entire value chain.

The supply expansion is a strategic move, reflecting Linde's dedication to supporting its customers in achieving decarbonization goals. The additional supply of captured carbon dioxide to Celanese marks a significant milestone in this partnership, reinforcing Linde's commitment to sustainable practices and contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions in the production of essential chemicals. The expansion is part of a broader initiative to actively invest in facilities, such as the Clear Lake facility, to enhance capabilities and facilitate the production of chemicals with a lower carbon footprint.

Linde's active involvement in decarbonization aligns with the broader industry shift towards cleaner and more sustainable practices. By leveraging its expertise and technological advancements, Linde is positioned to be a key enabler in the journey towards a greener and more environmentally responsible future. The company's commitment to supporting clean energy projects underscores its proactive approach to addressing the challenges of climate change and contributing to a more sustainable global economy.
