Lhyfe has secured victory in the recently concluded call for proposals (AMI) initiated by Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port in late 2022. The call, launched on November 21, 2022, aimed to allocate land within Montoir-de-Bretagne, Loire-Atlantique, France, strategically positioned at the heart of the port's industrial and logistics ecosystem. The overarching goal was to facilitate the development of an industrial facility dedicated to renewable hydrogen production.

Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port has been steering its trajectory towards a novel low-carbon economic model, a significant shift from its historical dependence on fossil fuels. Recognizing the urgent need to stimulate the growth of the hydrogen industry in the region, the port took the initiative to present a viable solution.

Within the framework of this endeavor, Lhyfe is set to establish an industrial unit with the capability to produce up to 85 tons per day (tpd) of green and renewable hydrogen, featuring an installed electrolysis capacity of 210 megawatts (MW). The chosen site, positioned to the north of the bulk port terminal, is earmarked for the commencement of operations by the year 2028.

Lhyfe specializes in the production of green and renewable hydrogen through the electrolysis of water, leveraging production units powered by renewable energy sources. The company's inaugural site has been operational since the latter part of 2021, and an additional seven sites are presently in various stages of construction across Europe, encompassing locations in France, Germany, and Sweden. This specific project aligns seamlessly with the overarching objective of decarbonizing both the industrial port complex and maritime transport.

It harmonizes with the 'Low Carbon Industrial Zone' (ZIBaC) development program, garnering support from key stakeholders including the Association des Industriels Loire Estuaire (AILE), Saint-Nazaire Agglomération, the Estuaire and Sillon areas, and the Pays de la Loire Region. A comprehensive roadmap has been meticulously crafted to transform the Loire Estuaire territory into a central hub for low-carbon energy. This initiative is poised to significantly advance the ongoing energy transition within the industrial port zone of the Loire estuary.

Nevertheless, the realization of this transformative project hinges on the fulfillment of specific prerequisites, including the attainment of operational authorizations, acquisition of construction permits, and, critically, the making of financial investment decisions (FID). These prerequisites constitute pivotal milestones in the journey toward establishing a green hydrogen production and distribution facility in Montoir-de-Bretagne.

The successful execution of this venture holds the promise of making substantial contributions to broader objectives centered around sustainable energy practices and environmental stewardship. The confluence of industrial, economic, and environmental considerations underscores the significance of this project within the broader context of regional and global efforts to transition towards cleaner, more sustainable energy sources. As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change and strives to meet ambitious carbon reduction targets, initiatives of this nature play a crucial role in shaping a more sustainable and resilient future.
