Lhyfe, a European group devoted to energy transition, and a producer and supplier of green and renewable hydrogen, and SAF+ International Group, world leader in the production and marketing of e-SAF (electro Sustainable Aviation Fuel), have joined forces in a groundbreaking collaboration to pioneer the production of electrofuel synthetic aviation fuel (e-SAF) derived from green and renewable hydrogen. This innovative venture is set to take place at a production facility situated in the Le Havre area, marking a significant milestone for Lhyfe.

SAF+, renowned for its cutting-edge technical proficiency in providing e-SAF, is dedicated to contributing to the aviation industry's efforts in reducing its carbon footprint. The group comprises prominent international players spanning the entire aviation value chain, positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable aviation fuel solutions.

In a noteworthy development from July of the previous year, SAF+ inked a memorandum of understanding with the Air France-KLM Group, outlining plans for the supply of second-generation e-SAF fuel. The inaugural deliveries under this agreement are slated for the year 2030, emphasizing the long-term commitment to advancing sustainable aviation solutions.

Lhyfe, on the other hand, specializes in the production of green and renewable hydrogen achieved through the electrolysis of water. Operating production units powered by renewable energy, Lhyfe's first operational site has been functional since the latter half of 2021. Additionally, two more sites in France were inaugurated in December 2023, showcasing the company's expansion in the renewable hydrogen production landscape.

Within the framework of the memorandum of understanding, Lhyfe and SAF+ have outlined their plans to assess the potential for developing e-SAF production in the Le Havre area. The collaboration aims to solidify their commitment through the signing of a co-development agreement. The envisaged facility in the port region of Le Havre will witness Lhyfe constructing a green hydrogen production site boasting a capacity exceeding 100 tonnes per day, equivalent to 300 MW of installed electrolysis capacity. This facility will cater to the e-SAF production site planned by SAF+.

The strategic collaboration between Lhyfe and SAF+ underscores the companies' shared commitment to advancing sustainable solutions in the European aviation sector. The surge in demand for SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) in the coming years necessitates the swift implementation of viable solutions. The Le Havre initiative demonstrates a concerted effort to address this growing demand, showcasing a clear trajectory in the pursuit of sustainable aviation practices.

The ambitious agreement between Lhyfe and SAF+ signifies a determination to contribute not only to the decarbonization of industries and road transport but also to address the environmental impact of air transport. In 2020, air transport accounted for 2.9% of global CO2 emissions, making it a critical focus area for sustainable practices and innovative solutions.

The collaboration between Lhyfe and SAF+ exemplifies a forward-looking approach in the quest for sustainable aviation fuel solutions. This partnership not only marks a pivotal step in the companies' European strategy but also reinforces their commitment to addressing the environmental challenges posed by the aviation industry. The Le Havre project is poised to be a catalyst for change, aligning with the global imperative to adopt cleaner, more sustainable practices in the aviation sector.
