LG Chem has joined the Global Impact Coalition (GIC), a CEO-led initiative aimed at achieving a net-zero chemicals future. This move marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to sustainability and emphasizes the importance of global collaboration in addressing climate challenges. LG Chem, a leader in sustainable materials, becomes the first Korean company to join GIC, reinforcing the need for international partnerships in emission reductions across the chemical sector.
As a key player in bio-based and recycled plastics, LG Chem is already at the forefront of sustainable innovation. Its decision to join GIC aligns with its mission to develop solutions that support the global energy transition and further advance sustainable technologies. By participating in the Coalition, LG Chem will work with other industry leaders on projects such as sustainable methanol production, improving end-of-life plastics recycling, and leveraging AI to enhance value creation across the chemicals value chain. These efforts support LG Chem’s broader goals of reducing carbon footprints and driving the transition toward a circular economy.
Hak Cheol Shin, Vice Chairman and CEO of LG Chem, emphasized the company’s commitment, saying, “Joining the Global Impact Coalition reflects LG Chem’s dedication to sustainability. The GIC offers a unique platform for collaboration, allowing us to co-create solutions and accelerate the transition to a circular, net-zero future.”
Founded at the World Economic Forum, the GIC is a platform that brings together leading chemical companies to address key challenges in achieving a circular, net-zero future. It fosters collaborative projects and develops transformative business models to commercialize sustainable technologies. The GIC currently includes major industry players such as BASF, SABIC, Clariant, Covestro, LyondellBasell, Mitsubishi Chemical Group, and Siemens Energy.
Charlie Tan, CEO of GIC, highlighted LG Chem’s strategic role in expanding the Coalition’s global network, particularly in East Asia, a critical region for the chemical sector’s future. He added, “Together, we can fast-track the transition to a low-carbon, circular economy.”
By joining the GIC, LG Chem strengthens the momentum for international collaboration, accelerating innovation to create a more sustainable chemicals industry and helping achieve a net-zero future.
