24M announced that its technology license partner, Kyocera Corporation, plans to double its production capacity for 24M SemiSolid™ lithium-ion residential energy storage batteries by FY2026. This decision comes as Kyocera responds to growing demand for energy storage solutions, driven by the success of its residential energy storage system, Enerezza, which is built on 24M technology. The system's outstanding performance underscores Kyocera’s dedication to innovation and quality while reinforcing confidence among renewable energy and battery technology stakeholders.

Hideo Tanimoto, President of Kyocera Corporation, emphasized the rising demand for renewable energy adoption in Japanese households. “To meet these market trends, we are expanding production of semi-solid energy storage batteries utilizing 24M’s advanced technology, promoting renewable energy use at home,” Tanimoto stated. He also highlighted Kyocera's commitment to advancing sustainable solutions by leveraging the innovative 24M SemiSolid technology.

Naoki Ota, President and CEO of 24M, echoed this sentiment, noting that Kyocera’s production expansion illustrates the benefits of SemiSolid technology in delivering safe, eco-friendly, and cost-efficient energy storage systems. “We are proud to have deepened our partnership with Kyocera and look forward to collaborating on commercializing our latest technologies, such as 24M LiForever™ and 24M ETOP™,” Ota remarked.

Kyocera and 24M first introduced the SemiSolid electrode and unit cell manufacturing process in 2020 with the launch of Enerezza. Offering a cost-effective and durable energy storage solution, Enerezza has provided consumers with significant economic advantages over conventional systems.

Currently, Kyocera produces 20,000 units annually and plans to invest JPY 10 billion to develop a new production line at its Shiga Yasu plant. This expansion will double the facility’s production capacity to 400 MWh annually by FY2026, bolstering the availability of 24M SemiSolid batteries.

In recognition of their innovation, 24M and Kyocera jointly received the 2024 Electrochemical Society of Japan Technology Award (Tanahashi Award) in March. This accolade highlights the successful commercialization and practical application of SemiSolid battery cells in the Enerezza energy storage system, further affirming the impact of 24M’s pioneering technology on the renewable energy market.

Through these advancements, both companies aim to play a significant role in driving the transition toward a sustainable energy future while promoting the widespread adoption of renewable energy solutions.

24M addresses the global demand for affordable energy storage with its groundbreaking battery manufacturing and design technology, powered by the 24M SemiSolid and Unit Cell platform. By reimagining conventional battery products and production methods, 24M overcomes long-standing challenges in energy storage, delivering solutions that lower costs, enhance performance, and improve safety and recyclability.
