In a strategic move designed to disrupt the industrial water treatment industry, Kurita America, a subsidiary of the global leader Kurita Group, has partnered with Solugen, a company specializing in bio-based chemicals. This collaboration positions them at the forefront of sustainability by developing a novel line of carbon-negative water treatment products. The focus of this partnership is to replace traditional petroleum-derived additives, like phosphorus, with high-performing alternatives derived from bio-based materials.

This shift promises not only to reduce the environmental footprint of water treatment processes but also to maintain or even improve treatment performance. The new product line signifies Kurita America's commitment to its Creating Shared Value (CSV) business model, which prioritizes sustainable solutions that benefit both customers and the environment.

Kurita’s Creating Shared Value (CSV) business is one of its fastest-growing segments, focusing on innovative solutions that save water, reduce CO2 emissions, and minimize industrial waste while enhancing plant productivity for customers. A notable recent development is the Tower NG series of cooling products, which substitutes traditional water treatment chemicals with advanced polymer technology and Solugen’s proprietary biodegradable corrosion inhibitor. By utilizing these cutting-edge bio-based solutions, the Tower NG series eliminates reliance on traditional organo-phosphonates, delivering superior or comparable results in deposit and corrosion control while promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Mike Mowbray, senior vice president of the Marketing and Technology Group for Kurita America, expressed enthusiasm about expanding their partnership with Solugen. This collaboration aims to develop innovative technologies to address the challenges of traditional water treatment programs. Mowbray highlighted that this partnership will significantly boost Kurita America's Creating Shared Value (CSV) business, which is dedicated to helping customers achieve their sustainability goals. The collaboration underscores their commitment to advancing sustainable solutions in water treatment.

Gaurab Chakrabarti, chief executive officer of Solugen, expressed that Kurita’s commitment to sustainability through innovative solutions makes them a perfect partner for promoting Solugen’s carbon-negative products. He emphasized their anticipation of the collective impact they will achieve by offering the water treatment industry decarbonized solutions that maintain high performance. This collaboration is set to advance sustainable practices within the sector, aligning with both companies' goals of reducing environmental impact.

Kurita's CSV business exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to environmental sustainability and industrial efficiency. The rapid growth of this segment underscores the market demand for solutions that address water conservation, CO2 emission reduction, and waste minimization. The Tower NG series, with its innovative use of polymer technology and biodegradable corrosion inhibitors, represents a significant advancement in cooling system maintenance. By moving away from traditional organo-phosphonates, Kurita not only enhances performance but also reduces environmental impact. This strategy aligns with global sustainability trends and positions Kurita as a leader in eco-friendly industrial solutions, driving both business growth and environmental stewardship.
