Kuraray Co., Ltd. has announced that its PARAPET™ methacrylic resin, produced at the Niigata Plant in Tainai City, Niigata Prefecture, has received ISCC PLUS certification. This certification is part of a globally recognized program for sustainable products and marks the second certification for a product from the Niigata facility, following the earlier approval of MPD (3-Methyl-1,5-Pentanediol).

ISCC PLUS certification ensures that products containing biomass and recycled raw materials are managed responsibly through a mass-balance approach throughout their supply chains, including the manufacturing processes. The new certification highlights Kuraray’s efforts in recycling discarded methanol for the production of methacrylic resin, alongside utilizing biomass raw materials.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Kuraray is executing its medium-term management plan, "PASSION 2026," which is a five-year strategy leading up to the company's centennial anniversary in 2026. The plan emphasizes the expansion of product offerings that positively impact the environment and enhance living conditions. This aligns with Kuraray's long-term vision, "Kuraray Vision 2026," which aims to establish the company as a specialty chemical manufacturer that prioritizes sustainable growth. This vision focuses on integrating innovative foundational platforms into Kuraray's technologies to foster contributions to customers, society, and the planet.

Through these initiatives, Kuraray demonstrates its dedication to sustainability and responsible production methods, further solidifying its position as a leader in the specialty chemicals industry. The ISCC PLUS certification for PARAPET™ not only recognizes the company’s sustainable practices but also underscores its commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship as it prepares for its centennial celebrations. The company is determined to continue developing sustainable products that support a healthier planet and meet the needs of its customers, thereby contributing to a better quality of life.

The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is a widely recognized certification program dedicated to promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. The ISCC PLUS standard is specifically designed to ensure that certified products, which include bio-based and recycled raw materials, are properly managed throughout their entire supply chains. This is particularly important for products marketed in the European Union and other regions around the world.

By adhering to ISCC PLUS guidelines, companies can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability while providing assurance to consumers that the materials they purchase have been sourced and processed responsibly. The certification encompasses various aspects of production and distribution, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and promote the use of sustainable practices. Ultimately, ISCC PLUS plays a crucial role in fostering transparency and accountability in supply chains, enabling businesses to contribute positively to environmental sustainability and support global efforts to combat climate change.
