Konya Silica has officially completed the acquisition of Southern Ohio Sands and Beaver Pike Enterprises, marking a significant step in its strategy to become a leading supplier of premium silica products in the industrial and energy sectors. This acquisition, effective immediately, will allow Konya Silica to better serve markets across Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, and beyond. With these new assets, the company has gained access to a high-quality silica sand resource, which boasts over 9,000 PSI crush strength, 99% silica content, and extremely low iron content. These characteristics make the silica ideal for a wide range of industrial applications and well-suited for the oil and gas market, particularly in the Appalachian Basin, including the Utica and Marcellus Shales.
In addition to the valuable silica sand resource, Konya Silica now controls an advanced bagging facility through its acquisition of Beaver Pike Enterprises. This facility enables the company to offer a full range of product options, including bulk wet sand, bulk dry sand, silica gravels up to several inches in size, and various bagged products in 50-pound, 100-pound, and supersack sizes. These capabilities will allow Konya Silica to meet the diverse needs of its customers across both the industrial sand market and the energy sector.
The company has big plans to revitalize and expand these operations, making substantial capital investments to enhance production capabilities. Konya Silica's goal is to achieve a nameplate capacity of more than 2 million tons annually by mid-2025, with additional plant expansions scheduled for 2026 and 2027. The company is already producing for the industrial sand market and is committed to increasing production volumes in this sector. By April 1, 2025, Konya Silica will also begin offering frac sand solutions to the oil and gas industry, with products specifically tailored to meet the needs of the Appalachian Basin’s energy market.
Dr. Anthony Konya, CEO of Konya Silica, emphasized the importance of this acquisition, stating, “This acquisition represents a transformative moment for the Appalachian sand marketplace, enabling the extraction of a critical resource and reducing logistical costs for our customers who have been shipping sand from other regions like Missouri and Wisconsin.” He continued, “With these sites, we are uniquely positioned to deliver unmatched quality and reliability to our customers, while setting new standards in both the industrial and energy markets.”
As part of this acquisition, Southern Ohio Sands and Beaver Pike Enterprises will be rebranded as Ohio Sands, symbolizing Konya Silica’s commitment to operational excellence and leadership within the region. Operating under the new name, Ohio Sands will combine the strengths of both facilities to deliver superior quality and service, ensuring streamlined operations, enhanced production capabilities, and a solid foundation for future growth. Ohio Sands will continue to provide high-quality silica sand and gravel products to both the industrial and energy sectors.
