His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, convened with global energy leaders to discuss the future trajectory of the energy sector and the UAE's dedication to sustainability through cutting-edge innovations and international collaboration.

During the meeting, the signing ceremony where international partners, including bp, Mitsui & Co., Shell, and TotalEnergies, were awarded a 10% equity stake each in ADNOC's Ruwais liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, with ADNOC retaining a majority 60% stake. Additionally, ADNOC secured new long-term LNG sales agreements with Shell and Mitsui & Co., further solidifying commitments and increasing the Ruwais LNG production capacity to 70%.

This partnership underscores Abu Dhabi's status as a reliable investment hub and builds upon the recent Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Ruwais LNG project, endorsed by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The agreement was formally signed by Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, alongside Murray Auchincloss of bp, Kenichi Hori of Mitsui & Co., Wael Sawan of Shell, and Patrick Pouyanné of TotalEnergies. Sheikh Khaled emphasized Abu Dhabi's appeal to global investors in the energy sector and highlighted the UAE leadership's commitment to leveraging innovative technologies to drive sustainable economic growth nationwide.

His Highness underscored the UAE's ongoing commitment to tackling energy challenges through investments in clean, lower-carbon projects and collaborations with global partners. He highlighted the leadership's dedication to improving efficiency and workforce capabilities via ongoing research, development, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) investments. Emphasizing strategic partnerships for knowledge exchange, he aimed to spur innovation and drive the transition towards sustainable energy solutions.

H.E. Dr. Al Jaber expressed his pleasure in welcoming bp, Mitsui & Co., Shell, and TotalEnergies as partners in ADNOC's Ruwais LNG project. This initiative aims to establish one of the world's most carbon-efficient LNG facilities, meeting rising natural gas demands sustainably. The project not only supports current energy needs with lower-carbon solutions but also contributes to global efforts towards cleaner energy transitions. Furthermore, it is expected to drive economic development in Al Ruwais Industrial City, enhancing the local industrial ecosystem and creating new skilled job opportunities for UAE Nationals.

The Ruwais LNG project, currently underway in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi, represents a groundbreaking initiative as the first LNG export facility in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to operate on clean power. Incorporating cutting-edge technologies and artificial intelligence, the project aims to minimize emissions and enhance operational efficiency.

Comprising two LNG liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 9.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), the facility underscores natural gas's role as a pivotal transitional fuel, offering lower-carbon emissions compared to other fossil fuels. ADNOC's strategic expansion will significantly boost UAE's LNG production capacity to approximately 15mtpa, further advancing its position in the international LNG market.

The involvement of bp, Mitsui & Co., Shell, and TotalEnergies in the project is contingent upon customary regulatory approvals, marking a collaborative effort to advance sustainable energy solutions in the region.
