KBR-AMCDE has secured a significant contract from energy giant Saudi Aramco to carry out the upgradation of Sulfur Recovery Units (SRUs) at the Haradh and Hawiyah Gas Plants. This high-impact initiative is a major step forward in aligning with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s environmental sustainability goals and aims to drastically improve the operational efficiency and ecological footprint of the gas facilities, according to several media reports.

The scope of this crucial project includes enhancing the sulfur recovery efficiency from approximately 95% to an outstanding 99.9%, a substantial leap in performance. In parallel, sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions are expected to be significantly reduced—from 4,300 parts per million by volume (ppmv) to just 250 ppmv. These figures not only mark a major improvement in environmental performance but also ensure that the facilities remain in strict compliance with the regulatory requirements set forth by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture (MEWA).

As highlighted in media reports, this initiative is closely aligned with KBR’s core values of sustainability, innovation, and safety. The project directly contributes to Saudi Arabia’s broader vision of achieving net-zero emissions and improving public health through better air quality. By targeting critical emission reduction and efficiency milestones, the upgradation will play a key role in minimizing the environmental impact of the gas plants.

The project will be managed by an integrated team led from KBR’s In-Kingdom (IK) office in Khobar, with additional engineering and technical support from its Out-of-Kingdom (OOK) office located in Leatherhead. This global-local collaboration model is designed to ensure world-class execution, leveraging both international expertise and deep local knowledge. Media outlets have emphasized that this approach will allow KBR-AMCDE to deliver the project efficiently and effectively, staying true to its reputation for excellence.

This development further reinforces Saudi Arabia’s leadership position in sustainable energy practices and underscores its proactive approach to environmental regulation and compliance. As noted in several media outlets, the partnership with KBR-AMCDE represents a shared commitment to operational excellence and ecological responsibility.

Moreover, by driving the execution of this project from its Khobar office, KBR is actively contributing to the development of local talent and expertise. This strategy supports the Kingdom’s energy diversification and localization goals while ensuring that cutting-edge solutions are implemented to support a cleaner and more sustainable future.

In conclusion, the awarding of this contract to KBR-AMCDE is more than just a technical upgrade—it’s a meaningful stride toward a greener future. As media reports suggest, this initiative not only enhances industrial performance but also embodies the strategic environmental priorities of both Saudi Aramco and the Kingdom.
