J-POWER, a Tokyo-based power generation company, and YamnaCo Ltd, a global green hydrogen and derivatives developer headquartered in London, UK, have announced a collaborative agreement for joint development and investment in global green hydrogen and derivatives projects, termed as the "Partnership."

This Partnership, born out of collaborative efforts on green hydrogen projects and a successful working relationship, capitalizes on the synergies between the two organizations:

J-POWER is a power generation company with a target of achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Introduced in 2021, the "Blue Mission 2050" initiative outlines the company's commitment to slashing CO2 emissions by 46% by 2030, with the ultimate aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. To attain this objective, J-POWER intends to progressively substitute coal-fired power plants with CO2-free hydrogen and ammonia power generation facilities.

Yamna is a leading developer and investor in green hydrogen, actively involved in identifying and developing various green hydrogen and derivatives projects. Their focus lies on concrete and imminent use cases, including green ammonia production in regions abundant with renewable energy resources, with plans for export to high-demand centers like Japan.

Under this Partnership, both parties have agreed to jointly develop and invest in green hydrogen projects worldwide, utilizing either Yamna's existing pipeline or additional projects to be jointly originated. Specific agreements will be established for each project they jointly engage in, based on the agreed collaboration framework.

Hiroyasu Sugiyama, Executive Vice President of J-POWER, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, "We are pleased to collaborate and develop jointly with Yamna as an excellent developer, which has expertise in structuring in the domain and shares our common spirit to achieve net-zero emissions. Hydrogen plays a crucial role in global decarbonization efforts, and we hope to leverage our activities to contribute to carbon neutrality."

Abdelaziz Yatribi, CEO of Yamna, also expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, "We are honored to partner with one of the power generation companies taking concrete steps towards industry-leading decarbonization targets. Within J-POWER, we've identified an exceptional partner possessing complementary qualities, and we eagerly anticipate unveiling compelling collaborative projects in the imminent future.."

Established in 1952 as a government-owned entity in Japan, J-POWER underwent privatization in 2004. It has since evolved into one of Japan's foremost electric power utility companies, boasting an installed capacity of approximately 26.1 gigawatts (GW) globally. Demonstrating a steadfast dedication to renewable energy and decarbonization, J-POWER operates a power generation capacity of 18.0 GW within Japan, while also actively participating in overseas power generation endeavors, accounting for a capacity of 8.1 GW.

Yamna is a specialized platform focused on green hydrogen and derivatives, spearheaded by industry experts in the energy sector. The company's objective is to produce green molecules on a large scale, replacing current or prospective fossil fuel solutions, and thereby aiding in the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions.
