Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani presided over the inauguration ceremony of two fertilizer factories situated in Basra, a southern province of Iraq, on Saturday. During his visit to the Basra governorate, Al-Sudani officially opened a urea fertilizer factory as well as a di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer factory. As part of the visit, the Prime Minister embarked on a comprehensive tour of the factory premises, acquainting himself with the various departments and receiving a detailed briefing on their operational procedures.

In his address, the Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized the pivotal role that these two newly inaugurated plants would play in addressing the agricultural needs of the nation. He underscored their strategic significance, highlighting their capacity to meet the demands outlined by the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture. Furthermore, he stressed their contribution towards enhancing food security within the country and facilitating the expansion of arable land for crop cultivation. Al-Sudani also announced that the output from these factories would be distributed across all governorates of Iraq in alignment with the national agricultural plan. This strategic move is poised to eliminate the necessity for importing fertilizers, thereby resulting in substantial cost savings previously allocated for such imports.

The rehabilitation and reactivation of these two factories mark significant milestones in Iraq's industrial landscape. Following agreements forged with two international companies, these factories, which had remained dormant for years, have been revived and reinstated to full operational capacity. This revival not only breathes new life into these facilities but also revitalizes the local economy by generating employment opportunities and stimulating economic activity within the region.

The urea fertilizer factory boasts an impressive production capacity of 1,000 tons per day, while the DAP fertilizer factory has the capability to produce a staggering 500,000 tons annually. These substantial production capacities underscore the scale and magnitude of the operations undertaken by these newly inaugurated factories. Such robust production capabilities are instrumental in catering to the burgeoning agricultural needs of Iraq, thereby contributing significantly to the nation's self-sufficiency and economic prosperity.

The inauguration of the two fertilizer factories in Basra underlines Iraq's commitment to bolstering its agricultural sector and achieving self-sufficiency in fertilizer production. These factories are emblematic of Iraq's strides towards industrial revitalization and economic development. By harnessing the potential of these strategic projects, Iraq is poised to enhance its agricultural productivity, promote food security, and pave the way for sustainable growth and prosperity in the years to come.
