IperionX Limited, through its American subsidiary ELG Utica Alloys (ELG), has signed a contract for an advanced titanium processing and product manufacturing initiative. This collaboration aims to showcase IperionX’s fully circular and sustainable titanium supply chain solution, converting titanium scrap into high-performance titanium products for advanced industries.

Through this partnership, IperionX will leverage its patented titanium technologies to upcycle up to 12 metric tons of titanium scrap from the consumer electronics sector, transforming it into various high-performance titanium products. Initially, IperionX will upcycle 1 metric ton of titanium scrap into high-grade titanium powder, subsequently manufacturing a range of titanium near-net shapes for specific parts, as well as plate, rod, and wire products.

Aperam, dedicated to promoting the circular economy, is a global leader in stainless, electrical, and specialty steel and recycling. As part of Aperam Recycling, ELG stands out as a global specialist in sourcing and processing titanium, stainless steel, and super alloys, handling over 1 million tons of metal each year.

Currently, titanium is sourced from long-distance, high-cost supply chains that often face traceability issues. The manufacturing process generates significant amounts of titanium scrap, such as cuttings and turnings, which are frequently downcycled to the ferro-titanium market. IperionX's advanced titanium supply chain solution aims to access new titanium feedstock sources, such as scrap titanium and U.S. titanium minerals. This approach can help re-shore domestic titanium production and manufacture more cost-effective and sustainable high-performance titanium products.

Carsten Becker, CEO of ELG Utica Alloys, expressed enthusiasm about expanding their partnership with IperionX to lead the development of a fully circular titanium supply chain. This agreement will enhance titanium recycling, ensuring it remains in a closed loop, thereby reducing carbon emissions and advancing Aperam’s sustainability objectives.”

Anastasios (Taso) Arima, CEO of IperionX, remarked: “Our partnership with ELG is a significant step towards establishing a more sustainable, fully circular, and traceable titanium supply chain in the U.S. Our new Titanium Manufacturing Campus in Virginia equips us to process titanium scrap feedstocks and produce high-performance titanium products for advanced industries.”

IperionX strives to be a premier American titanium metal and critical materials company by utilizing patented metal technologies to produce high-performance titanium alloys from titanium minerals or scrap with lower energy consumption, costs, and carbon emissions. IperionX's Titan critical minerals project holds the largest JORC-compliant mineral resource of titanium, rare earth, and zircon mineral sands in the United States. Its titanium metal and critical minerals play a pivotal role in advanced U.S. industries such as consumer electronics, space exploration, aerospace, defense, hydrogen technology, electric vehicles, and additive manufacturing.
