Invista, based in Wichita, Kansas, has announced its decision to maintain the production of hexamethylene diamine (HMD) at its facility in Orange, Texas. This announcement comes in light of several developments since last year's declaration to cease operations involving adiponitrile (ADN) and HMD at the same site. According to Francis Murphy, Invista's president and CEO, the Orange facility has demonstrated its capability to operate effectively as an HMD-exclusive site, maintaining safety, reliability, and competitiveness. Murphy expressed enthusiasm about the future of long-term HMD production in Orange, stating, “We are pleased to be moving forward with long-term HMD production in Orange.”
The Upstream Nylon division at Invista is set to prioritize enhancing its capacity to provide customers with a consistent supply of products across the nylon 6,6 value chain, encompassing everything from ADN to polymer. Murphy took a moment to commend the employees in Orange for their unwavering commitment to environmental health and safety during this transitional phase. He expressed a desire to continue being an integral part of the Orange community and emphasized the company's dedication to meeting customer needs. Additionally, Murphy extended gratitude to Dow Chemical for their collaboration, which has been instrumental in facilitating the continuation of HMD operations in Orange.
Fernando Signorini, Dow's Vice President of Operations, also expressed satisfaction with Invista's decision to sustain HMD operations at Dow’s Sabine River Site in Orange, Texas. He highlighted the excitement surrounding the potential opportunities that lie ahead and reaffirmed the importance of the long-standing partnership between the two companies. Signorini emphasized that their collaboration transcends mere business arrangements; it represents a mutual commitment to excellence, growth, and a positive impact on both organizations as well as the communities they serve.
This strategic decision reflects Invista's focus on ensuring a steady and reliable supply chain while reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence. The Orange site will continue to play a crucial role in the company's plans, contributing to the overall strength of its nylon production capabilities. With the support of employees and partners, Invista is poised to navigate this new chapter in its operational journey, solidifying its presence in the industry and enhancing its relationships with customers and local stakeholders alike.
