Infinium, a pioneer in eFuels, and Borealis, a global leader in sustainable plastic solutions, have formed a strategic partnership to develop low-carbon polyolefin plastics. By utilizing waste carbon dioxide, these companies are driving a circular economy approach to plastics production, minimizing environmental impact. Polyolefins, a versatile class of materials, are widely used in consumer goods such as packaging, appliances, textiles, and medical devices. This collaboration marks a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the plastics industry.

Infinium, the world’s first supplier of commercial volumes of eNaphtha, is leading the charge in decarbonizing plastics production and reducing global CO2 emissions with its sustainable, drop-in alternative to traditional fossil-based naphtha. Produced at Infinium's Project Pathfinder facility in Corpus Christi, Texas, eNaphtha is now being shipped to Borealis' Porvoo facility in Finland, where it contributes to the production of advanced, sustainable polyolefin solutions. The inaugural commercial shipment of eNaphtha left the U.S. in May, marking a significant milestone in sustainable manufacturing.

Plastics made from Infinium eNaphtha can be manufactured using existing facilities and equipment and can be recycled just like conventional naphtha-based products. The eNaphtha produced at Infinium's Pathfinder facility has earned ISCC PLUS certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) body, ensuring the traceability of the sustainably produced feedstock from its origin through the entire supply chain. This certification underscores the sustainable and responsible production practices behind eNaphtha, further reinforcing its role in reducing the carbon footprint of plastics manufacturing.

Infinium CEO Robert Schuetzle highlighted that most people are unaware that many everyday plastic products are made from fossil-based components. He emphasized that with Infinium eNaphtha, Borealis will be able to produce plastics that have an ultra-low carbon footprint. This innovation aligns with the growing demand from customers and end consumers for more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives. Schuetzle's statement underscores the potential of Infinium eNaphtha to revolutionize the plastics industry by offering a greener solution that significantly reduces the environmental impact of plastic production.

Mirjam Mayer, VP of Circular Economy Solutions at Borealis, expressed enthusiasm about incorporating Infinium eNaphtha into their sustainable product portfolio. She explained that atmospheric carbon plays a crucial role in Borealis' Circular Cascade approach, which aims to enhance circularity in plastics and carbon. This approach not only meets customer needs but also reduces their carbon footprints. Mayer highlighted that by collaborating with Infinium, Borealis demonstrates how atmospheric carbon—captured and stored in products—can become a circular building block for the future. This collaboration exemplifies Borealis' commitment to reinventing essential products for sustainable living.

The strategic alliance between Infinium and Borealis showcases how industry leaders can collaborate to drive innovation and meet the increasing consumer demand for sustainable and circular products. By combining their respective expertise, these companies have developed novel solutions that contribute to a more environmentally friendly future.
