Germany headquartered INEOS Styrolution, a subsidiary of INEOS, dedicated to the production and supply of speciality styrenics, launched the recycled grades of speciality Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) on September 8, 2021. The new grades i.e., Navodur ECO and Navodur ECO High Heat are composed of recycled post-consumer waste to up to 70% and 50%, respectively.

The company assures the new recycled grades to be analogous to the pristine Navodur and Navodur High Heat in terms of characteristics and applications. INEOS Styrolution has been working tirelessly to establish a circular economy by building a segment of eco-friendly products. In 2019, the company had launched the recycled version of Terluran which is a general-purpose brand of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene.

ABS is a thermoplastic polymer that is produced from the polymerization of acetonitrile and styrene in the presence of polybutadiene. The easy moldability, high impact resistance, electrical insulation, heat and chemical resistance has made ABS an indispensable component in the automotive industry (for making door handles, seat backs and belts etc.), plumbing and construction, electrical appliances and toys.

As per ChemAnalyst, the employment of post-consumer plastic waste for generating the Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene grades that are used to manufacture everyday products across many industrial sectors marks an important initiative towards sustainable growth. The recycled products hold high potential in the global market where demand for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene is expected to rise with a CAGR of over 6% by 2027. Asia-Pacific region will dominate the drive for ABS owing to its growing economy and increasing expenditure on construction, automobiles, and electrical appliances.
