CFR Houston: The market sentiments of Artificial Sweetener witnessed a declining trend from the start of quarter 3 2022 in the United States on the back of the sufficient availability of downstream products and reduced end-user demand. Due to the low demand for Aspartame, an artificial sweetener in the US, imports were also reduced from China (a Major producer), which resulted in a dip in its prices in the domestic market.
The recent news that suggested people who consumed large amounts of Aspartame—found in the tabletop sweeteners Equal and NutraSweet as well as in cereals, yoghurt, and diet soda—had a higher risk of stroke than people who didn't consume it—was one of the main reasons for the price reduction of Aspartame in America. whose effects on consumer spending were clearly visible.
At the same time, it was also noticed that people consuming a higher quantity of sucralose, and Acesulfame potassium, frequently used in sugar-free sodas, had a higher risk of coronary heart disease. These factors have put consumers in a dilemma for using Artificial sweeteners, which negatively affected their price trends in the domestic market. However, a recent study from the NutriNet-Sante cohort demonstrated a possible direct correlation between high artificial sweetener consumption and increased risk of CVD (cardiovascular disease) risk. This combinedly affected the market sentiments as customers reduced their consumption, and the domestic merchants were left with stockpiled inventories.
Additionally, the extreme climate changes (Heat waves) further affected Artificial Sweetener prices as the trading movement was put to a halt, further worsening the shipment activity. With this, Aspartame prices demonstrated a decline of 4.88 percent in the US, and market participants anticipate that the price trajectory will also continue to slant down in the upcoming months. ChemAnalyst predicts that until the production and demand increase, Aspartame prices will remain on the weaker side.
