McPhy Energy, headquartered in La Motte Fanjas, France, has recently inked a significant contract with HMS Oil and Gas division GmbH, based in Berlin, involving the supply and commissioning of four McLyzer 3200-30 electrolyzers with a cumulative capacity of 64 MW.

The four electrolyzers are slated to operate at the Radeland Compression station in Brandenburg, which is connected to a pipeline network spanning from the Baltic Sea to the southwest of Germany. Positioned strategically, this site is set to play a pivotal role in the hydrogen conversion of a vital natural gas pipeline into one of the major hydrogen pipelines, as part of the ambitious "Flow – making hydrogen happen" project. This groundbreaking initiative marks the commencement of a large-scale gas grid conversion to hydrogen in Europe, utilizing existing infrastructure to facilitate hydrogen adoption across key regions swiftly.

The contract unfolds in two phases, with the initial phase encompassing the supply of one McLyzer 3200-30, boasting a capacity of 16 MW. This unit is scheduled to be commissioned and operational by the end of 2025. The subsequent phase entails the commissioning of three additional McLyzer 3200-30 units in 2027, bringing the total capacity to 64 MW. These electrolyzers will be powered by electricity sourced from nearby wind parks and photovoltaic plants, producing up to 10,000 tons of low-carbon hydrogen annually. The final investment decision for phase I is expected in 2024, and for phase II by the end of 2025.

In line with this project, McPhy plans to commence the manufacturing of the McLyzer 3200-30 at its newly constructed Gigafactory in Belfort, focusing on the design and engineering of high-capacity electrolysis systems. The San Miniato plant in Italy will contribute to the production of stacks. McPhy is committed to providing long-term maintenance services as part of the contract.

Jean-Baptiste Lucas, Chief Executive Officer of McPhy, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with HMS Oil and Gas division in Germany, emphasizing McPhy's role in supporting partners in their energy transition endeavors. Lucas highlighted McPhy's ability to contribute to large-scale projects that significantly propel hydrogen adoption across Europe. He also looked forward to leveraging the capabilities of the upcoming Gigafactory to support key projects in the region, further advancing the hydrogen sector.

Dennis Schwind, Chief Executive Officer of HMS Bergbau AG, stated that as a Berlin-based and globally active company, HMS Bergbau AG is committed to providing suitable energy solutions worldwide. He expressed special interest in shaping the evolving energy landscape with projects like the one in collaboration with McPhy.

Additionally, the Djewels project, signed in July 2023, involves the supply of a 20-megawatt McPhy Electrolyzer in Delfzijl, Netherlands, to be operated by HyCC. The final investment decision for this project is anticipated in the first half of 2024, subject to EU approval of a subsidy from the Dutch state, which is currently in the final stages of the public consultation process.
