United States: The facility that will recycle polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles into pellets that can be made into new beverage bottles and other products has been chosen for a location at the Midwest Mega Commerce Centre in southern Ohio's Fayette County by PTTGC America (GCA), Thailand's largest integrated petrochemical and refining conglomerate, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited, or GC, produces and distributes upstream, intermediate, and downstream petrochemical goods. GC operates in eight business areas and offers high-quality petrochemical and chemical products to a variety of clients. The company can produce 11.28 million tonnes of petrochemicals and chemicals annually, and it can refine 280,000 barrels of oil and condensate per day.

According to GCA, it has an agreement with Martin Land Co. that gives it the option to buy land at the 2,300-acre business park just off of Interstate 71 and close to U.S. Route 35. (The Midwest Mega Commerce Centre is also the location of a factory being built by Honda and LG Energy Solution to produce batteries for Honda and Acura electric vehicles.) It is located about 70 miles northeast of Cincinnati and 40 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio.

As part of path to reach Net Zero by 2050, GC Group seeks to reduce existing CO2 emissions by 20% by 2030 in accordance with the Paris Agreement, according to CEO Panod Awaiwanond. This effort demonstrates our dedication to halting global warming and promoting a circular economy. It also reinforces our dedication to Ohio and the United States.

The corporation also has development plans for a petrochemical complex in Ohio's Mead Township, which is located on the state's side of the Ohio River. To assess the viability of the complex, GCA has been engaging in front-end engineering design work since September 2015. According to the corporation, it chose this area because it is close to the Marcellus and Utica shale regions and provides access to significant roadway, rail, pipeline, and port infrastructure that would boost productivity while lowering transportation costs and environmental impact. According to the corporation, no final investment decision has been made about the project.

According to GCA, the PET recycling project is in the investigation and planning phase. GCA wants to primarily buy PET scrap from material recovery facilities in Ohio and neighbouring states.

According to GCA, the facility will divert around 40,000 tonnes of plastic annually, resulting in a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of up to 50,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent annually, or a 79 percent decrease when compared to the manufacturing of virgin PET from Hydrocarbons.
