Evonik has completed the expansion of its MetAMINO production facility in Singapore, which is now operating at full capacity. This expansion, facilitated through a collaboration with Linde, incorporates the use of green hydrogen, significantly enhancing the sustainability of the production process. As a result, the product carbon footprint of Evonik’s DL-methionine produced in Singapore has been further reduced by six percent, underscoring the company’s commitment to improving environmental performance and supporting greener industrial practices.

The expansion of Evonik’s MetAMINO (DL-methionine) production facilities on Jurong Island, Singapore, has been successfully completed ahead of schedule. The site, which experienced shutdowns in Q4 2023 and Q2 2024, is now operating at full capacity again. The recent expansion significantly increased production capacity by 40,000 metric tons, boosting the total annual capacity to 340,000 metric tons. This boost in production capability reinforces Evonik’s commitment to meeting growing market demands efficiently and effectively.

Dr. Harald Schwager, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, highlights that Evonik’s partnership with Linde for implementing green hydrogen in Singapore underscores the company's dedication to sustainability. This collaboration is a key part of Evonik’s broader efforts to foster a more sustainable future. The recent expansion of Evonik’s DL-methionine plants in Singapore has successfully achieved a six percent reduction in the product carbon footprint of MetAMINO (Scope 1+2+3) compared to previous levels, reflecting the effectiveness of their sustainable practices and technological advancements.

Through process intensification, Evonik has optimized its methionine production plants, resulting in a surplus of steam that is utilized to generate on-site electricity. In collaboration with Linde, which has designed, constructed, and operates a nine-megawatt alkaline electrolysis unit—the largest of its kind installed in Singapore—Evonik is advancing its sustainability goals. This unit enables the production of green hydrogen, which is essential for MetAMINO production, demonstrating Evonik's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and enhancing sustainability in its operations.

The expansion of Evonik’s MetAMINO production facilities was celebrated with a festive inauguration attended by Grace Fu, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment. Minister Fu highlighted the significance of such investments, noting that they align with Singapore’s Sustainable Jurong Island vision and support the country’s net-zero ambitions. She expressed gratitude to Evonik for its continued trust and commitment to Singapore, emphasizing that the expanded manufacturing footprint of sustainable products will play a crucial role in meeting rising demand and achieving environmental goals.

MetAMINO plays a crucial role in livestock production, enhancing animal health, efficiency, and sustainability. Evonik’s Animal Nutrition business line, leveraging a science-based approach, develops innovative products, services, and system solutions to meet the global demand for healthy, high-quality, and affordable animal protein. As a key component of Evonik's Nutrition & Care division, Animal Nutrition not only supports the growth of the division but also contributes significantly to its profitability through its strong self-financing capabilities.
