Japan Airlines (JAL) and ENEOS Corporation have forged a strategic alliance to expedite the integration of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into Japan's aviation sector. This collaborative effort positions ENEOS as the pioneering Japanese energy company to import and supply SAF to JAL, which has been proactively sourcing SAF from both domestic and international markets. By combining their strengths, JAL and ENEOS aim to accelerate the decarbonization of the aviation industry in Japan and contribute to the global sustainability agenda.

In the aviation sector, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has set a target to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions from international flights by 2050 and aims to cut emissions by 15% compared to 2019 levels starting in 2024. To accelerate the industry's decarbonization, promoting the use of domestically produced Sustainable Aviation Fuel is essential. As an initial step toward this goal, IAG and Repsol have agreed to collaborate on developing a domestic SAF supply chain. This agreement represents a significant move towards advancing sustainability in aviation and supporting the broader objective of reducing the sector's carbon footprint.

JAL and ENEOS will continue their strategic partnership to accelerate the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Japan. In addition to investing in more fuel-efficient aircraft, Japan Airlines is proactively sourcing SAF both domestically and internationally. The company aims to replace 1% of its total onboard fuel with SAF by FY2025 and 10% by FY2030. JAL is also working to enhance the recognition of SAF's environmental benefits through the "JAL Corporate SAF Program," which certifies the CO2 reduction contributions of SAF usage for corporate clients who fly with JAL in Japan. This initiative underscores JAL's commitment to sustainability and its efforts to promote the environmental value of SAF within the aviation industry.

In alignment with the ENEOS Group's Long-Term Vision, ENEOS is committed to addressing the dual objectives of ensuring a stable supply of energy and materials while advancing towards a carbon-neutral society. To support this mission, ENEOS is developing a comprehensive, integrated system for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This system encompasses the entire lifecycle of SAF production, starting from the procurement of raw materials to in-house manufacturing and sales. By creating this end-to-end SAF infrastructure, ENEOS aims to contribute significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions in the aviation sector and enhance the sustainability of energy resources.

ENEOS Group is Japan's premier energy company with a global footprint spanning manufacturing and distribution networks. The company operates across the entire energy and non-ferrous metals value chain. Committed to ensuring a stable energy and materials supply, ENEOS is at the forefront of driving energy transition to achieve a carbon-neutral future.
