Econic Technologies, a leading deep tech company specializing in renewable carbon solutions, has signed a global strategic licensing agreement with Saudi Aramco Technologies Company (SATC) for its CO2 polymer technology. This agreement marks a significant step forward for Econic as it integrates SATC’s advanced CO2 polyol technology into its growing portfolio. The move allows Econic to expand its range of sustainable materials and better serve its existing and emerging customer base across various industries, particularly within coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers (CASE).

SATC was among the pioneers in the field, introducing CO2-based polyols to the market under the Converge® brand. Since then, both the technology and global sustainability strategies have seen considerable advancements. As industries face increasing pressure from consumers, regulators, and sustainability mandates, there is a growing demand for high-performing, cost-efficient, and eco-friendly materials. This evolving landscape has created a timely opportunity for Econic to further develop and strategically position SATC’s CO2 polyol technology as part of its sustainable materials offering.

Keith Wiggins, CEO of Econic Technologies, emphasized the value of this partnership, stating, “Our proprietary catalytic and process technologies enable the transformation of CO2 — an abundant and affordable renewable carbon source — into valuable, high-performance materials. The addition of Aramco’s CO2 polyol technology enhances our capabilities and positions us to help a wider array of industries reduce their carbon footprint while improving product performance.”

Dr. Raed Abudawoud, CEO of SATC, shared his optimism about the collaboration, noting, “We are pleased to license our CO2 polyols technology to Econic. Their leadership in CO2-based material innovation makes them an ideal partner to bring our Converge® polyols to new markets and applications.”

Econic’s recent efforts have centered on accelerating the commercial deployment of its technology in key global regions, including the US, Europe, and Asia. The company has announced multiple commercial agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with polyol producers committed to manufacturing and marketing polycarbonate ether (PCE) polyols derived from captured carbon. Full-scale industrial production is expected to commence in 2025.

This strategic partnership underscores the commitment of both companies to advance climate-conscious innovation in material science, helping manufacturers and brand owners meet the dual demands of sustainability and performance in an increasingly regulated market.

Econic Technologies, headquartered in Alderley Park near Manchester, UK, is a pioneering deep tech company dedicated to advancing renewable carbon solutions. The company has developed groundbreaking catalyst and process technologies that enable the production of polymers using carbon dioxide (CO2) in place of traditional petrochemical sources. This innovative approach not only enhances the sustainability of manufacturing processes but also results in more cost-effective and higher-performing final products.
