Dow has announced intentions to expand capacity as a result of its minority equity investment in SAS Chemicals GmbH, a specialized chemical manufacturer headquartered in Germany. SAS Chemicals produces sealants and components crucial for insulating glass manufacturing, and Dow aims to leverage this investment to enhance its comprehensive facade solutions.

For more than fifty years, Dow's silicone insulating glass sealants have been deployed across a range of commercial structural glazing projects, offering unparalleled UV resistance and structural integrity. These sealants have not only empowered architects to explore innovative architectural designs for glass facades but have also been instrumental in enhancing structural durability. Notably, over 70% of the world's tallest buildings, according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), have been bonded using Dow technology. With the recent expansion of capacity at SAS Chemicals GmbH, Dow now boasts an even wider array of high-performance adhesives and sealants solutions to meet the evolving needs of insulating glass manufacturers.

"Our customers will enjoy the advantages of an enhanced capacity and product range, offering a comprehensive solution of sealant and adhesive technologies that fulfill the requirements for performance, productivity, and quality in the facade and window sectors," explained Jean-Paul Hautekeer, Global Strategic Market Director for Building & Infrastructure at Dow Consumer Solutions. " This investment further strengthens our position as a leading provider of materials science within the global facade sector."

Dow holds a minority equity stake in SAS Chemicals GmbH, a firm specializing in the production and distribution of adhesives and sealants utilized in the fabrication of insulating glass windows. As part of this capacity enhancement initiative, SAS Chemicals will bolster its activities in Germany and extend its production facilities into Turkey. The Turkish expansion strategically positions the company to efficiently cater to the global market while complementing its existing operations. The Turkey-based plant of SAS Chemicals is scheduled to commence operations in June 2024.
